The trailer for Future Man uses nostalgia as a cudgel, beating the viewer until they enter a numb state that only vaguely resembles amusement. [1] Our first really good look at Hulu?s new scifi series Future Man is finally here, and it?s really leaning into its premise basically being The Last Starfighter. [2] Hopefully Future Man the series understands the difference. [1] Once it makes its meta joke about its inspiration, Future Man reveals that really it?s more going to be about zany time travel than it is anything else. [2]

Will the blend work this time around? How far can Rogen, Goldberg, and series star Josh Hutcherson push these disparate genres until they shatter? The Future Man trailer offers our first look at what could be one of 2017’s weirdest TV shows. [3] Hutcherson has teamed up with Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg for a new Hulu sci-fi comedy series called Future Man, which dropped its first trailer Thursday morning after a behind-the-scenes teaser involving opossums and futuristic guns bewildered folks at San Diego Comic-Con in July. [4] Ahead of this year’s festivities at New York Comic Con, Hulu dropped the new trailer for Future Man, a new action-comedy helmed by Seth Rogen and his Preacher partner-in-crime Evan Goldberg. [5]

Josh Hutcherson plays Josh Futterman – a janitor-turned-time-traveling-antihero – in the new trailer for Future Man, a science fiction comedy series that premieres on Hulu on November 14th. [6] To celebrate the release of the trailer at New York Comic-Con, Rogen tweeted, “Here’s the trailer for FUTURE MAN, our new TV show about time travel and saving the world and also STD’s!” Honestly, that’s a TV show tagline I can get behind. [7]

Future Man stars Josh Hutcherson ( The Hunger Games ) as “Josh Futturman,” a janitor by day/gamer by night who is recruited by mysterious visitors to travel through time in order to prevent the extinction of humanity. [3] I’m trying to think of a succinct way of describing the plot of Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg’s new TV show, Future Man, starring Josh Hutcherson, and this is all I’ve got: Hutcherson is a janitor at a lab and ends up traveling back in time with two warriors from the future (who are also somehow in a video game he plays?) to stop his boss at the lab from ever getting herpes. [7] Future Man follows a sad-sack janitor named Josh (Hutcherson), who finds himself recruited by soldiers from the future after he becomes the first person to successfully beat a certain video game. (Thankfully, the show actually cops to ripping off The Last Starfighter from the jump: “It?s the exact same plot as the movie,” Hutcherson?s character notes, eyes rolling.) [4]

Future Man appears to be made in a similar though probably less gory mold, and while it?s definitely not going to be the kind of prestige breakthrough Hulu had with The Handmaid?s Tale, it still looks like a good time. [4] That particular skill set looks like it’ll come in hand for their new Hulu series Future Man, which looks to blend dick jokes and action-packed science fiction shenanigans. [3]

Shaffir acknowledges that Hulu has totally been behind Future Man as they’ve supported the writers’ vision of an over-the-top comedy mixed with elements of science fiction and pop culture. [8] Remember, it’s got Rogen and Goldberg, so Future Man is packed with comedy. [5] If Ricky and Morty can blend raunchy comedy with ingenious sci-fi, maybe Future Man can achieve a similar balance. [3] Seth Rogen produced and directed Future Man along with Evan Goldberg. [6] Future Man is created and executive produced by Kyle Hunter and Ariel Shaffir ( Sausage Party ). [3] Although no specific release date has been announced for Future Man season 2, all signs point to a late 2018, early 2019 winter premiere. [8]

A brand new trailer and poster have been released for the upcoming Hulu series Future Man, from executive producers Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg. [9] Hulu has released a fantastic trailer for their upcoming sci-fi comedy series Future Man in which Josh Hutcherson ( The Hunger Games ) plays a character named Josh Futturman. [10] The trailer premiered at NYC ComicCon today, showing the titular Future Man himself Josh Hutcherson of The Hunger Games coming to terms with being a rip-off of the hero from The Last Starfighter. [11]

Future Man stars Josh Hutcherson (The Hunger Games) as “Josh Futturman,” a janitor by day/gamer by night who is recruited by mysterious visitors to travel through time in order to prevent the extinction of humanity. [12] Future Man stars Josh Hutcherson ( The Hunger Games, The Kids Are Alright ) as a janitor by day/world-ranked gamer by night who is tasked with preventing the extinction of humanity after mysterious visitors from the future proclaim him the key to defeating the imminent super-race invasion. [9]

Hulu has been teasing the release of Future Man, a new 13-episode time-travel series starring Josh Hutcherson ( The Hunger Games ), for some time now. [13] Hulu is taking a trip back — and forward — in time in their new series Future Man. [14] Back in September 2016, Hulu picked up a full 13 episode season of Future Man, but it’s taken until now for the series to debut. [14] From Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg, all episode of Future Man premiere Nov. 14, only on Hulu. [12] Future Man, which is executive produced and directed by comedy heavyweights, Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg, looks like the perfect show to kick back and unwind to. [15]

Combining elements of video game action and 1980s time travel, “Future Man” brings Josh Hutcherson to television and co-stars “Happy Endings” favorite Eliza Coupe and Derek Wilson. [16] Every episode of Future Man’s first season will arrive on Hulu on November 14, 2017. [3]

UPDATE: On Jan. 8, Hulu announced in a press release that Future Man will return for Season 2 with 13 more episodes. [14] The show I?m excited about is Future Man, an upcoming Hulu Original. [15] While they certainly wrap things up when the credits roll, most of these ’80s sci-fi classics have at least one sequel, so Future Man 2 could be heading for Hulu sometime in the next year, with the audience musing over a big cliffhanger. [14] Future Man riffs on Nick Castle?s 1984 film, The Last Starfighter, which is about a young man who is so good at arcade games that he?s recruited into an intergalactic battle. [15] Are you guys excited for Future Man ? Did you immediately think of The Last Starfighter ? Let us know in the comments or tweet us @ComingSoonnet. [9] If Future Man ?s concept brings to mind The Last Starfighter, it?s not a sneaky ruse. [17] Future Man features Josh Hutcherson ( The Hunger Games ) as a video game playing slacker who finds himself thrust into the role of humanity?s savior. [15] That’s a long production cycle, suggesting that even if Future Man is renewed right away, it could be over a year before the series is capable of returning. [14] This thing goes from self-referential humor to a full-on, bear-hug embrace of all things 80s, from cocaine, to oiled-up topless male volleyball. (Would you expect anything less from the minds behind Sausage Party ?) Future Man looks like a blast, even as I’m approaching my limit for modern takes on 80s culture. [12] While it’s still too early to know if Future Man will be back, you might find out sooner than you think. [14]

The Future Man trailer shows how that janitor/gamer Josh (played by Josh Hutcherson) assumes the responsibility of, you know, saving the world. [18] Check out the first trailer for Future Man, and continue reading below. [19]

We could certainly use a hero right about now, so why not Josh Hutcherson ? The new 13-episode Hulu show ” Future Man ” stars Hutcherson as Josh Futturman, a janitor by day and world-ranked gamer by night who is recruited by mysterious visitors from the future who eye him as the key to preventing the extinction of humanity. [20] Per the streaming service, Future Man tells the story of “a janitor by day/world-ranked gamer by night is tasked with preventing the extinction of humanity after mysterious visitors from the future proclaim him the key to defeating the imminent super-race invasion.” [18]

Future Man is the new Hulu series from Kyle Hunter and Ariel Shaffir, the producers behind Sausage Party, and is directed by Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg, the team also behind the already-mentioned anthropomorphic food movie, as well as This is the End and AMC?s delightfully zany Preacher. [21] Future Man is an American comedy web television series created by Howard Overman, Kyle Hunter, and Ariel Shaffir that premiered on November 14, 2017 on Hulu. [22]

Coupe isn’t the only actress in this series popping up around Hollywood in various roles either, as Future Man offered a very quick glimpse of Haley Joel Osment, who looks to be on a roll following his time on Silicon Valley. [19] Coupe has bounced around Hollywood since the ending of that series in various roles in television and in film, so hopefully Future Man is a place the talented actress can call home for awhile. [19] Future Man hasn’t made many waves during its development, but they did run into problems when actress Glenne Headly passed away while the series was still in production. [19] All episodes of Future Man will premiere Tuesday, Nov. 14, on Hulu. [21] As mentioned, Future Man is set to release all 13 episodes on Hulu November 14th. [19]

While the premise enough sounds like something that will drive the laughs in Future Man, the cast does a good job of making sure the jokes land. [19]

Have you read Ready Player One or watched the trailer and need something to hold you over until March 30? The upcoming Hulu series FUTURE MAN looks to satisfy that craving 10 times over. [23] A trailer and poster has been released for Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg’s Hulu series Future Man has been released. [24] Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg?s new comedy series Future Man debuts on Hulu next month, and today the streaming network released the trailer. [25] An official trailer has been released for Future Man, a sci-fi comedy series coming soon to Hulu. [26] This week, Hulu released a new trailer for their upcoming original series Future Man. [27] One day after Hulu dropped the first trailer for Future Man, the streaming service shared the first episode for an audience exclusively at New York Comic-Con. [28] Continue below for more on Future Man and to check out the trailer. [26]

OK, so maybe the headline’s not entirely accurate, but it’s close: Future Man – a brand-new Hulu series headed our way from Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg – concerns a young video game enthusiast named Josh (Josh Hutcherson) who gets recruited to travel back in time to stop a doctor (Keith David) from creating a herpes vaccine that eventually leads humanity to extinction. [29] SYNOPSIS: Future Man stars Josh Hutcherson (The Hunger Games) as “Josh Futturman,” a janitor by day/gamer by night who is recruited by mysterious visitors to travel through time in order to prevent the extinction of humanity. [27] Future Man stars Josh Hutcherson ( The Hunger Games ) as a janitor by day/world-ranked gamer by night who is tasked with preventing the extinction of humanity after mysterious visitors from the future proclaim him the key to defeating the imminent super-race invasion. [24]

The finale of Season 1 of Future Man shows Josh relaxing in his prison cell, when blue bolts of lightning — like those that accompany people time traveling start materializing. [30] Who could it be? Why did they come back? Are they coming from the future or the past? The brief cliffhanger that concludes Future Man could lead to a whole multiverse of possibilities for Josh, but only Season 2 will be able to tell fans what happens next. [30]

If that happens, “Future Man” may just turn out to be the hero Hulu needed all along. [20] By way of Sony Pictures Television, “Future Man” is executive produced by Seth Rogan, Evan Goldberg, Matt Tolmach and James Weaver. [20] If you’re a nerd looking for a smart sci-fi comedy that speaks to you, “Future Man” is probably going to disappoint. [31] If you set your expectations low and can tolerate some gratuitous vomiting and an exploding head every now and then, “Future Man” just might be the temporary escape from the present you’re looking for. [31] Just because “Future Man” doesn’t quite deliver the savvy, nerdy laughs of an Edgar Wright production (such as ” Shaun of the Dead,” ” Scott Pilgrim vs. the World ” and ” The World’s End “), that’s not to say it isn’t often hilarious and worth watching. [31]

While it may have had a harder time gaining traction if it followed the traditional Hulu model, of dropping one episode a week or a few at a time, the fact that all of Future Man is available to watch now is likely to help it build buzz. [32] From Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg, all episodes of Future Man premiere Nov. 14, only on Hulu. [26] All episodes of Future Man will be arriving on Hulu on November 14th. [26] Rogen and Goldberg, who directed the pilot as well as several other episodes, have proven they can do a lot with a small amount of money in their movies before, and they do their best to make Future Man as cinematic as possible, despite clearly having limited resources. [32] Like Seth MacFarlane’s new show, The Orville, or the work of Dan Harmon on Community and even more so on Rick and Morty, Future Man would rather call attention to its patchwork of influences than drop them in as Easter eggs. [32] Considering its cheap and digital look, much of Future Man comes off like the many less polished shows the BBC has to offer. [32] Although if you?re not already worn down by the nostalgia inherent in series like Stranger Things and movies like It, Future Man probably isn?t going to be the tipping point for you. [32] Being rough around the edges hasn?t stopped any number of British series from finding a cult following, and even in the era of American prestige TV, it?s unlikely to stop Future Man from finding an audience either. [32] Future Man is created and executive produced by Kyle Hunter and Ariel Shaffir (Sausage Party). [27] Good on Future Man for addressing the obvious right out of the gate: this entire project is built atop a premise that sounds suspiciously like The Last Starfighter. [29] Whereas “serious” properties like Stranger Things and It try to coat their references in sincerity and sweetness, Future Man makes no attempt to soften its approach. [32] Perhaps more than any other, the show Future Man really owes a debt to is Edgar Wright?s Spaced, both in scrappiness and intent. [32] Pop culture references abound in Future Man, particularly ’80s science fiction and video game cliches. [32]

The Hunger Games star dropped the brand-new trailer for his highly anticipated Hulu show Future Man at 2017 New York Comic Con on Friday (October 6) at Jacob Javits Center in New York City. [33] The first trailer is here for HULU’s newest series, Future Man is here, and its great. [34] Thanks to New York Comic Con, the first official trailer for Hulu’s Future Man has been released and it looks promising to provide some laughs. [35]

“Future Man” is led by “Hunger Games” star Josh Hutcherson as a janitor and world-ranked gamer who is tasked with preventing the extinction of humanity after mysterious visitors from the future proclaim him the key to defeating the imminent super-race invasion. [30] If you enjoy sci-fi/action movies from the 80’s and 90’s,then I can’t imagine how you wouldn’t love, “Future Man,” a series that both celebrates those films and pokes fun of them at the same time. [30]

Future Man is an upcoming comedy television series starring and co-produced by Josh Hutcherson. [36] Future Man stars Josh Hutcherson of The Hunger Games as Josh Futterman, a gamer tasked by two survivors of the future to kill an entrepreneurial scientist whose herpes cure leads to a planet-devastating war. [37] Hulu’s Future Man thrusts Josh “Future Man” Futterman (Josh Hutcherson, or, “isn’t he the dude from The Hunger Games ?”) into a fight for humanity’s survival. [38]

Created by Seth Rogan and frequent partner Evan Goldberg, Future Man tells the story of a janitor at a biotech company who beats a video game — only to be chosen by its creators for a mission to the past in order to save the future. [37] It’s a good day for Marvel and, uh, Seth Rogen, as both Runaways and Future Man have landed a second season on U.S. streaming service Hulu. [39] With this fact firmly established, I’m truly astonished that there hasn’t been more said about two already available, already great time-travel streaming TV shows: Future Man on Hulu and Travelers on Netflix. [38] All 13 episode of Future Man will be available November 14th on Hulu. [35] Marvel’s Runaways and Future Man both air on Hulu in the U.S. No UK broadcaster has yet been confirmed. [39] Like Future Man, people are sent back in time (from the future to the present day) to help avert a future crisis. [38] If you?re not Quantum Leap, there?s only so much juice you can get out of repeatedly jumping through time, and Future Man starts and sputters despite its best efforts not to, not unlike the time-traveling mechanism that serves as the primary engine for the show?s hijinks. [40] There are shades of The Last Starfighter or even Ender’s Game to this, but Future Man knows that it’s riffing on these ideas–and many, many more. [38] In a stroke of cosmic irony, the problem with Future Man, a show about time travel, is that it?s arrived at the wrong time. [40] While Future Man regularly makes dumb jokes, the show is decidedly not dumb, and its handling of time-travel is solid. [38] Unlike Future Man, Travelers’ writing is more reckless in one important way: the first season ended on a cliffhanger, and the second season has also left things spectacularly unresolved. [38] We don’t get one of the common-but-hated cliffhanger endings–the events of this first season are nicely resolved at the end–but there’s enough intrigue and unsolved mystery that we still want more Future Man. [38]

In a slightly different vein, Future Man, which boasts Seth Rogen as its executive producer, is all about a janitor-cum-gamer whose passion for ‘Biotic Wars’ spills over into real life. [39] It should say enough about Future Man that the episode in which cross-dressing is played as an extended sight gag comes in the same episode as a full parody of the famously homoerotic Top Gun volleyball scene and bro culture in general. [40] Under any other circumstances, it?s the kind of turn that ought to vault him to full leading-man status (the episode he carries is a singular fever dream), and the way it?s somewhat lost under Future Man ?s uneven tone is maybe the show?s biggest pity. [40] If not, you may want to turn back, because the clever ways in which Future Man manages to send up almost every geeky property out there is its biggest charm. [40] Just as Tiger and Wolf?s progress in nixing their “kill everything that moves” instincts teeters back and forth depending on what the story demands rather than following any linear sense, the humor that Future Man shoots for swings from juvenile to sharp and back again. [40]

Tiger and Wolf soon discover that Future Man’s gaming skills have zero real-world value and that lazy, unambitious gamers don’t actually make good soldiers. [38]

POSSIBLY USEFUL

While the first half of the trailer goes all in on the Last Starfighter stuff–showing how deadbeat janitor Josh ( The Hunger Games ? Josh Hutcherson) finds himself helplessly recruited into an intergalactic adventure for being good at a video game that is secretly a training program in disguise. [2] Trailer Frenzy A special place to find the newest trailers for movies and TV shows you’re craving. [2]

The trailer introduces the far-fetched plot by giving it all the hallmarks of Rogen and Goldberg’s best works, including the storyline in witch preventing a case of herpes could be the key to saving the world. [16] The time travel comedy from creators Ariel Shaffir and Kyle Hunter of Sausage Party fame followed the hapless janitor, Josh Futturman (Josh Hutcherson), as he attempted to fulfull his destiny as the savior of the future in a surprisingly complex mission that involves changing the past. [8] Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg are still waiting to hear if “Preacher” will officially score a Season 3 pickup at AMC (the not-so-secretive decision is that it’s all but guaranteed), but in the meantime they’re gearing up to debut their new Hulu original comedy series, ” Future Man.” [16] By night, he’s melting his mind with hours of playing a video game that, as it turns out, is actually a recruitment tool sent from the future to identify who among humanity is able to prevent a worldwide extinction. [5] During a dance-off that takes place back in time, Futterman demonstrates the moonwalk – “a little something I brought with me from the future” – which inspires Michael Jackson to adopt the move. [6] With the fate of his guides from the future, Wolf and Tiger (Derek Wilson and Eliza Coupe), hanging in the balance, the renewal was welcome news to fans who have enjoyed the irreverent style of the adventure series. [8]

Plus, I’ve been waiting for Josh Hutcherson to try something new and “straight man to a crude science fiction universe” looks like the proper use of his innocent deadpan. [3]

In the Hulu comedy (all 13 episodes available Tuesday), you?re supposed to think of the 1984 sci-fi film — supplemented by a plentiful supply of gross-out jokes — when watching ordinary janitor and talented video gamer Josh Futturman (Josh Hutcherson, The Hunger Games ) try to save humanity after he?s selected by fantasy characters from the future. [17] A janitor by day/world-ranked gamer by night is tasked with preventing the extinction of humanity after mysterious visitors from the future proclaim him the key to defeating the imminent super-race invasion. [15]

To do so, he’ll have to hook up with some video game heroes in order to travel back in time and take out a scientist ( Keith David ) whose invention (a cure for herpes) will oppress future civilizations. [12] It’s also possible that the series will avert the typical ending and instead deliver some form of twist on the “chosen one” cliche, perhaps by giving Eliza Coupe’s Tiger a bigger role, or making Elias Kronish’s herpes cure just one part of the apocalyptic future they need to rescue. [14]

He becomes the world champion player of a popular game that turns out to be a secretly implanted recruiting tool for an army of resistors in a pandemic-ravaged future world. [14] He’s so good, in fact, that he’s recruited by warriors from the future to try and stop the disaster that’s coming. [9]

That?s all changed now that Hulu has released the first official trailer for the series which looks to combine, and then parody, elements of multiple beloved franchises for a story about a janitor/gamer recruited by mysterious visitors to travel through time in order to prevent the end of all mankind. [13] The initial suggestion to “kill him as a baby” elicits a shocked reaction out of Hutcherson who exclaims, “You cannot kill a baby!” This leads to the second big reveal of the trailer: rather than murder a child, Hutcherson must travel back in time and “cock block” the scientist so he never contracts the disease in the first place. [13]

This trailer contains: Time travel, dance battles, Josh Hutcherson, and herpes. [12] Hailing from the creators of Sausage Party and This Is the End, expect plenty of dancing, herpes, and raunchy humor in the trailer. [41]

Hutchinson calls the similarities to the recruitment plot out in the trailer which quickly ushers away any viewer complaints that this series is ripping off plot of a classic. [13]

A well-meaning, not exactly formidable young man is hardly the superhero the game warriors Tiger (Eliza Coupe) and Wolf (Derek Wilson) expect when they meet Josh, the winner of a devilishly difficult video game that also serves as savior detector. [17]

When he finally becomes the first to defeat the game, two of the characters travel back in time from an apocalyptic future, Terminator- style, to inform Futterman that he has completed a training program that identifies him as the savior of humanity. [31] This key scene in the opening episode also sets the tone for the humor that will dominate the series: Futterman greets one of the very excitable and violent visitors from the future by incidentally soiling his pants with X-rated bodily fluids. [31]

It’s a time travel action comedy starring Josh Hutcherson about a janitor dude who excels at a particular video game which, it turns out, is a training device from the future. [42] Josh Hutcherson is a janitor/gamer turned humanity’s savior in Hulu’s “Future Man.” [31]

Only in a Seth Rogen project would the future of humanity rely on whether or not someone gets herpes. [19]

If the trailer is to be believed, that extinction of humanity has a lot to do with Keith David?s attempt to cure herpes. [21] Headly is featured in the trailer, and producers did not remove her role from the series. [19]

The premise, in which a janitor named Josh Futterman (Josh Hutcherson) is recruited by two resistance fighters from the future named Tiger and Wolf (Eliza Coupe and Derek Wilson) after beating a video game they sent back in time as a testing mechanism, is essentially lifted from the 1984 film The Last Starfighter. [32] The first episode of the Seth Rogan-produced comedy finds Josh Futterman (Josh Hutcherson) trying to save the world with help from two video game characters, Tiger (Eliza Coupe) and Wolf (Derek Wilson), who have arrived from the future. [28]

It follows The Hunger Games and The Kids Are All Right star Josh Hutcherson as a janitor and gamer who finds himself being recruited by time travelers from the future. [26]

Scott Wampler is an online film blogger, Podcast host, and man of constant sorrow living in Austin, TX. His likes include CREATURE FROM THE BLACK LAGOON, the filmography of David Lynch, and the conspicuous consumption of alcohol. [29] All episodes release November 14 on Hulu, watch the trailer below. [23] When the show?s trailer first dropped, one commentator warned that it would ” make you hate nostalgia.” [32]
