Strong AI, also known as artificial general intelligence, is an AI system with generalized human cognitive abilities so that when presented with an unfamiliar task, it has enough intelligence to find a solution. [7] I?m sure when you hear the words “artificial intelligence”, you immediately think of Hollywood?s sci-fi movies: robots taking over the world, complete mayhem, people freaking out, the end of the world getting closer, etc. [6] John McCarthy, an American computer scientist, coined the term “artificial intelligence” in 1956 at the Dartmouth Conference where the discipline was born. [7] AI (artificial intelligence) is the simulation of human intelligence processes by machines, especially computer systems. [7]

To simplify the discussion, think of AI as the broader goal of autonomous machine intelligence, and machine learning as the specific scientific methods currently in vogue for building AI. All machine learning is AI, but not all AI is machine learning. [8] Weak AI is never taken as a general intelligence but rather a construct designed to be intelligent in the narrow task that it is assigned to. [41]

Cogito originally co-founded by Dr. Sandy and Joshua is one of the best examples of the behavioral version to improve the intelligence of customer support representatives, currently on the market. [5] Siri is one of the most popular personal assistants and one of the best examples of speech recognition software available today. [4] The timeline for some of these changes is unclear, as predictions vary about when self-driving cars will become a reality: BI Intelligence predicts fully-autonomous vehicles will debut in 2019; Uber CEO Travis Kalanick says the timeline for self-driving cars is “a years thing, not a decades thing”; Andrew Ng, Chief Scientist at Baidu and Stanford faculty member, predicted in early 2016 that self-driving cars will be mass produced by 2021. [8] That is the extent of their intelligence; they know what to do in the situations that they are programmed for, and outside of that they have no way of determining what to do. [41]

Virtual personal assistants, such as Apple’s Siri, are a form of weak AI. [7] By pressing a button or saying a particular phrase (“Ok Google”, for example), you can start speaking and your phone converts the audio into text. [8]

Developers will update their apps’ code so that every time a user takes a particular action for example, placing their coffee order, streaming a favorite podcast, starting their evening jog with a running app or anything else the app will let Siri know. [42] There are a number of things you could do beyond these limited examples the App Store has more than 2 million apps whose developers can hook into Siri. [42]

Giannandrea will head a new organization that includes Siri, Apple’s Core ML team (that’s the machine learning API that Apple launched to make AI and AI-focused tasks run more efficiently on iOS devices), The Verge reports, as well as Apple’s machine learning division as a whole. [20] Most AI examples that you hear about today – from chess-playing computers to self-driving cars – rely heavily on deep learning and natural language processing. [17] The second goal is to provide practical and contextualised examples of AI in learning. A project undertaken by PriceWaterhouseCoopers estimated that “artificial intelligence technologies could increase global GDP by $15.7 trillion, a full 14%, by 2030.” 7 That includes advances of $7 trillion in China, $3.7 trillion in North America, $1.8 trillion in Northern Europe, $1.2 trillion for Africa and Oceania, $0.9 trillion in the rest of Asia outside of China, $0.7 trillion in Southern Europe, and $0.5 trillion in Latin America.
