In yet another innovation, in January 2017 Elon Musk suddenly decided he was going find a way to reduce traffic by devoting resources to boring and building tunnels. [11] Consumer Reports' remaining concerns about wind noise and an uncomfortable rear seat were also quickly remedied in production, according to Elon Musk. [22] With the introduction of the dual-motor all-wheel-drive version, this time will inevitably drop even lower, especially with the guarantee from Elon Musk that there will be a ludicrous version as well. [22] In August 2013, Elon Musk released a concept for a new form of transportation called the "Hyperloop," an invention that would foster commuting between major cities while severely cutting travel time. [11] This could prejudice a trial too. now a judge might need to find a jury who hasn't heard of Elon Musk and hasn't heard such a statement. [27]

According to Tesla's CTO, JB Straubel, in October 2015, most Tesla engineers were working on the 3 rather than S or X. Since electric cars have lower cooling needs than combustion cars, the Model 3 does not have or need a front grille. [22] "Tesla Model 3: The Road & Track Review: Can Tesla's most affordable model kick-start the electric car revolution?". [22] Tesla says it plans to start Model 3 test drives by the end of this month, finally giving people a chance to get behind the unusual dashboard of the electric car. [24] The thing most people don't realize is that Tesla is not the reason the industry is pushing towards electric cars. [27] To me there is no doubt that behind the scenes specialised agencies and perhaps even darker machinations are at work to throw monkey wrenches into Teslas attempt to build an market feasilbe electric car. [27] Then there are the oil & gas companies, the wealthiest industry in the world -- they don't love the idea of Tesla advancing the progress of solar power & electric cars. [27] Why would they? Every other automotive company is already working on electric cars, and cars such as the Nissan Leaf (with its 172km/107 mile rage and $28,550 price) are already very close to being feasible for the mass market. [27] By 2020 there will be 1 million electric cars out of the 230 million cars on the road in the U.S., an estimated 17.3 light vehicle sales will occur in 2020 about 5 to 10% will be EVs. It's going to take a generation or two before EV's make up 50% of the market, 35% is predicted market share for 2040. [27] Get rid of them, and electric cars can be stalled for another 10 years. [27] Derailing Tesla's hype train would in no way stop the development of electric cars. [27] In August 2016, in Musk’s continuing effort to promote and advance sustainable energy and products for a wider consumer base, a $2.6 billion dollar deal was solidified to combine his electric car and solar energy companies. [11] As it is, most companies are having to move into electric cars, and all of them are being dragged kicking and screaming. [27] The Model S became the bestselling electric car in the United States in 2015. [28]

After making improvements to the manufacturing lines that are building its Model 3 car, Tesla is ramping up production of the new mid-size car, Musk said. [1] Production is up to 3,500 cars a week now, Musk said, so the company may yet escape its hell soon. [6] "It's very difficult to become a mass-manufacturing car company," Musk, 46, said Tuesday after shareholders voted down a measure that would have required an independent director replace him as chairman. [6]

Tesla has had to shut down its production lines for the new car at least twice to fix and upgrade them. [1] Tesla is also now turning its attention toward expanding its manufacturing capacity by adding another plant, which will produce cars, battery packs and powertrains in Shanghai. [6]

I think car companies do this mostly as an investor play, to show that they?re forward-thinking and "preparing for the future" and all that Tesla-ish bullshit that makes Wall Street analysts go nuts. [6] The company has already demonstrated the ability to make 500 cars a day, or 3,500 a week, and should able to boost production even further in coming weeks. [1] The company started building the third line about two weeks ago, and the initial cars are moving through "crazy fast," he said. [6]

Tesla and Musk have been under fire recently after several automobile crashes, difficulty meeting production goals, and growing concerns from Wall Street that it will have to raise funds. [8] The process of ramping up Model 3 production has been "hellish," Musk said. [1] Musk acknowledged that the process of ramping up Model 3 production hasn't been easy. [1]

Even if the company prevails, the campaigns could amplify the need for change at the company or apply pressure on Musk. [8] The shares jumped early Wednesday after Musk, Tesla's chief executive officer, said the company was "quite likely" to be build 5,000 of the sedans a week by the end of this month. [6] The company may announce more details about that factory as soon as next month, Musk said, then reveal plans for another to be built somewhere in Europe toward the end of 2018. [6]

The group argued that Kimbal Musk, venture capital investor Antonio Gracias, and 21st Century Fox CEO James Murdoch are either lacking the experience necessary for the job or not independent enough. [8] "This is like. the most excruciating, hellish several months I've maybe ever had," Musk said at the shareholder meeting. [1]

CtW Investment Group, an activist group that works with pension funds sponsored by unions, wrote a letter to Tesla investors urging them to vote against three directors--including Musk's brother, Kimbal--who are up for reelection at this year's meeting. [8] Two votes at Tuesday's meeting could curb Musk's power and increase the independence of the board. [8]

"We are now, I think it is fair to say, in a confusing situation," Mary Nichols said Tuesday at the Edison Electric Institute convention in San Diego. [6] I think it's very challenging from an engineering standpoint to solve these problems, so I think the current NCA technology is going to be the dominant technology for the next 10 years. [7] It's why he thinks he's in a good place with Aston Martin, an "emotional" brand that can achieve high margins and will never need to be in the pod game. [6] There are a number of new projects to mine cobalt in DRC. I think we?ll have stable prices until about 2022, when demand is going to exceed what new supplies can come, and then prices are likely to increase. [7]

Electric vehicles are creating a true demand for cobalt now and that's going to be around for a long time. [7] Photo by Spencer Platt/Getty Images As electric vehicles become less niche, the batteries powering them need to keep up. [7]

Tesla has stated it expects to make 5,000 cars per week by the end of this month, but Musk has repeatedly changed Model 3 production targets. [2] Musk's allegations come at a difficult time for Tesla as it struggles to ramp up production of its mass-market Model 3 car. [2]

There was lots of media coverage of Musk stating during the meeting that he believes it is "quite likely" Tesla will achieve its production target for Model 3 of 5,000 units per week by the end of the month. [29] If Emanuel and Musk, who is also the CEO of electric-car company Tesla, are able to reach a final deal, it would then need approval from Chicago's city council. [5] Considering the state of Tesla, i.e. scaling phase, losing Billions, consistently underdelivering, while the stock price is higher than Ford, Fiat-Chrysler-(Jeep-Dodge-Maserati-Ferrari), I think that Musk is still the best fit for the job of the CEO+Chair at the same time. [13] With that out of the way at this point in time I too think like most that Tesla is actually best served with Elon at the helm with full control both as CEO and as chairman. [13] Right now if something happened to Elon I think the next best person would be CTO JB Straubel, he's been there since inception and shares the unique vision of where Tesla is going and is an engineer at heart. [13]

The general consensus is that Project Titan is far behind companies like Waymo, Tesla, and GM. However, I do not think that is the only way to look at the situation. [30] "I think if you look at someone's track record or a company's track record?it's reasonable to extrapolate into what it would do in the future," Musk said about criticism of the effort. [5]

Musk then linked his comments to a CNBC story that showed Goldman expected Tesla to deliver 22,000 Model 3s at the close of the quarter. [2] During a first-quarter earnings call in May 2016, Musk said Tesla aimed to make 100,000 to 200,000 Model 3s in the second half of 2017. [2] Tesla currently has two general assembly lines, but it's constructing a third, Musk explained. [29] Musk said that over the next couple of months, Tesla should roll out assisted driving that will go from highway on-ramp to highway off-ramp. [29]

Most recently, Musk said that it no longer would provide the skates for cars to race beneath the surface but instead will focus on transporting pedestrians and cyclists. [5] Put anyone else in the drivers seat at Tesla, and it becomes "just another car company". [13] The car Yousafzai referred to is the Midnight Cherry Red Tesla Roadster that went up with Musk's SpaceX launch Feb. 6. [4] For now, Tesla is only selling the long-range version of the car, which has a starting price of $44,000 (upgrading to the long-range battery costs $9,000). [29] On every car produced and sold, as well as on the energy-storage business, Tesla loses money. [14] Selling lots of EV cars is not the end goal for Tesla! It's a means to an end. [13]

The car is said to be electric, though its autonomous capabilities are unclear at this point. [3] The futuristic-looking electric skates - battery-powered, zero-emission vehicles - are modeled after the Tesla Model X SUV, according to Boring Company. [5] Expertise from Apple, Facebook, Amazon, and General Electric boards the Tesla boat. [4]

Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel announced Thursday that his administration is entering one-on-one negotiations with the Musk company to build the high-speed system that will utilize electric vehicles running through twin underground tunnels. [5] The capsule was named for "Puff the Magic Dragon," a jab at those who scoffed when Musk founded the company in 2002 and set the space bar exceedingly high. [5] The chief constraint for Model 3 production, Musk said, is general assembly -- where parts are put together at the end of the production process. [29] Musk talks Model 3 production, Autopilot software updates, and more. [29]

Musk has been talking about a pickup truck since at least 2013, but he said in December that the truck would arrive after the Model Y, so sometime after 2019. [15] Either we stay with Musk CEO - Musk Chair, OR, Buffett as Chairman wouldn?t be a super farfetched idea. [13] Tesla investors easily fended off a proposal to split founder CEO Elon Musk's chairman and CEO roles. [29] First off the fund that wanted to remove Elon as chairman of the board wanted to do it for best practices reasons to have an independent board and to have chairman and CEO as two separate people. [13] They didn?t have any wishes to oust Elon as CEO, they just thought that chairman role should be taken on by someone else so that Elon wouldn?t be in both seats at the same time. [13] He could be a great replacement CEO, but only if Elon is for what ever reason unavailable. [13]

The production results of the Model 3 at end of June 2018, will constitute a serious test for the supposed super-powers of Elon Musk? and may cause the fall of the man who had considered himself to be Iron Man. [14]

What has been less discussed is Musk's update on what the current production constraint is and how Musk expects to get to this impressive production rate. [29] Musk's comments came following an intense poaching war between Apple and Tesla, with both companies poaching employees from the other. [3] With his first companies X.com and PayPal, Musk "took a lot of behaviors that were done offline and moved them online," Gannett says. [12] Musk also said that the vehicle would be able to parallel park automatically and would come with 360-degree cameras and sonar. [15] While Musk has plans of his own for the truck, he said he is also open to suggestions when it comes to features for the vehicle. [15]

A communication champion, Musk even sent his own roadster into space. [14] Musk said the truck will come standard with dual motor all-wheel drive, "crazy torque," and a suspension that dynamically adjusts for the load. [15] The deal puts Musk a step closer to making his Boring Company's vision a reality. [5] The Boring Co. in April said it raised $113 million, mostly from Musk himself. [5]

The proposal aimed to strip Musk of his chairman position and to instead appoint an independent director as chairman. [29] Some big improvements for Autopilot are on the way, according to Musk. [29]

I think that shareholders here are easily led to misunderstand the state of the nature of Tesla. [13] I think he's committed since the huge stake in the company, but probably they need someone more experienced in this position. [13] I think probably at the end of this year is when we should be able to make the smaller battery pack and then get into kind of volume production of 35k version in Q1 next year. [29]

"The concept of car elevators on skates add a bunch of engineering challenges, such as reliability and safety of the elevator, loading and unloading times, and the number of dedicated areas in a city you'd need to do this at scale," Constantine Samaras, assistant professor of civil and environmental engineering at Carnegie Mellon University, told " Forbes " earlier this year. [5] As noted in a new report on Uber's fatal accident involving an autonomous vehicle, the Financial Times includes new data on how many self-driving cars Apple may be testing in California. [3] Over the past year and a half, however, it's become more clear that Apple is indeed working on a car of some sorts under the "Project Titan" moniker. [3] Apple has purchased a variety of real estate property in the area, much of which fits the bill for building a car. [3] Not much is known about the design of the Apple Car, though a variety of renders have emerged, all of which are purely imaginative and based on nothing but speculation. [3] As we inch closer to the reported 2021 release, we should expect for more details concerning the Apple Car to emerge. [3] A new digital key standard will allow you to use a smartphone (and possibly Apple Watch) to unlock your car. [3] Apple doesn't appear to be slowing down on its mysterious self-driving car technology testing. [3]

Apple's self-driving car project named Project Titan has been flying under the radar for some time now. [30] Each year, the lobbying power of the oil and car industries will be continually eroded by its new competitors. [30] Steve Jobs himself admitted to considering building a car in 2008, but put the plans on hold to focus on development of the iPhone. [3] Self-driving hardware in all cars, space tourism, reusable satellite launchers? His futuristic ideas sell dreams. [14]

Each electric skate features a climate-controlled cabin, luggage storage space and Wi-Fi. [5] Each electric skate could carry eight to 16 passengers or a single-passenger vehicle, according to a Boring Company fact sheet. [5] Boring Company projects that the system will run up to 20 hours per day, seven days a week with electric skates departing as quickly as every 30 seconds. [5]

It's a four-seat, all-wheel drive with three individual electric motors. [4]

Musk's comments on the upcoming availability of the base version of the Model 3, the company's path to a higher Model 3 production rate, and expected updates to Autopilot are only some of the important narratives discussed during the annual shareholder meeting. [29] After launching at NASA's Kennedy Space Center in Florida, Musk's first-generation red Roadster ended up in orbit on its way toward the Sun and eventually Mars. [4]

Elon Musk's Boring Company is Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel's pick to build a high-speed transit system connecting O'Hare International Airport and downtown Chicago. [5]

There are three main reasons why my fingers are crossed, hoping that Project Titan succeeds. First, Apple's brand is extremely valuable and it is a trusted company. [30] With Apple's incredible wealth and brand value, the company can always acquire, merge, or partner with other companies. [30]

I think we'll probably get to 5,000 a week with the current 2 general assembly lines, but with the third one, I'm highly confident that we can exceed 5,000 units per week. [29]

Invited by one questioner to entertain a moment of self-reflection after the repeated delays to Model 3 production, Musk said: "I think I do have an issue with time. [17] The minute Tesla becomes profitable the game changes and the market will value the company on the basis of data based projects of future earnings, and cash needs. It will be difficult to keep all the products Musk has going or has promised. [19] On another note, there's good news for Harley-Davidson ( HOG ) -- Musk said Tesla won't be making electric motorcycles. [20] Following a two-month period in which his relations with Wall Street and the media have become increasingly testy, Musk generally struck a calmer note at the electric car-maker's annual meeting in Silicon Valley, in front of a crowd of mainly small shareholders who have been his most loyal backers. [17] Mr Musk had written: "We tried, but (the) Singapore government is not supportive of electric vehicles." [16]

A new, one-make race series named Electric GT puts the Tesla Model S on the track. 20 pilots from 10 private teams will compete in identical, ultra-light cars upgraded with bigger brakes and a new suspension system. [18] His remark reignited a debate on electric vehicles in Singapore, as netizen Joe Nguyen had said in an online post in 2016 that he had to pay S$15,000 (US$11,260) in carbon surcharges for his Tesla car. [16]

According to the LTA, there are currently four EV models - which are not Tesla cars - that qualify for the maximum rebate of S$20,000 (US$15,014). [16] Tesla selling to another car company at this point would be a very bad decision. [19] He said Tesla ( TSLA ) makes its cars with love unlike the bean counters at Ford ( F ) and General Motors ( GM ). [20] "This is going to sound a little cheesy, but at Tesla we build our cars with love." [17] They are concerned that Tesla can’t manage infrastructure changes ahead involving electric-vehicles and autonomous-driving cars. [31]

With flying cars, floating cars and giant Hot Wheels models added to the debuts and concept vehicles signs abounded that the auto industry is getting its swag back. [18] Do you remember Suzuki? The company hasn't sold a car in the U.S. in years but it's alive and doing well elsewhere. [18] If Apple wanted to buy a car company, they can afford to outright purchase VAG, or Toyota, or both. [19] Tim Cook is probably the best operations guy in the world and he knows it doesn't make sense to saddle Apple with the high capital cost/low margin (vs current business)business of building cars. [19]

Flying cars, floating cars, debuts, concept vehicles and more. [18] The S and 3 are the best selling cars in their class in the U.S. and consumer satisfaction is higher than any other brand according to Consumer Reports. [19] According to a study published by J.D. Power and Associates, many car-buyers avoid green cars because they're too small, look strange, or cost too much. [18]

Following the incident, Mr Musk contacted Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong, and the Tesla founder said that Mr Lee told him that he would investigate the situation. [16] Speaking at Tesla's annual shareholder meeting, Musk said it was "quite likely" the company would hits its goal of producing 5,000 Model 3 vehicles in a single week before the end of June. [17] As long as Musk remains at the company there will be no buyers. [19]

Investors say the board is missing expertise on manufacturing -- evident in recent production delays -- and has too many Musk cronies on the board. [31] Musk, who has bristled publicly under intense criticism for much of this year, showed a moment of vulnerability in front of Tesla's perennially supportive individual shareholders. [17] "We do not expect to need to raise any additional debt or equity," Musk said. [17] In response to other questions, however, Musk continued to issue the kind of optimistic-sounding predictions that have become his trademark, and which have provided fuel for the army of speculators who have shorted Tesla's stock. [17]

If there’s any company that socially responsible investors should love, it would probably be Elon Musk’s Tesla, the clean-energy electric-car maker. [31] Responding to Tesla founder Elon Musk's assertion that Singapore's policies are not supportive of electric vehicles (EVs), the Land Transport Authority (LTA) said that it encourages the adoption of greener and cleaner vehicles such as hybrid buses and electric vehicles. [16]

Tesla represents a quandary for the responsible investing set, which looks for companies that they deem supportive of environmental, social and governance issues, or ESG. Musk’s vision for Tesla, laid out a decade ago, was impeccable on at least one score: “to help expedite the move from a mine-and-burn hydrocarbon economy towards a solar electric economy. [31] Between product mixes shifting to mostly sport-utility vehicles and with electric vehicles becoming more popular thanks to Tesla -- and no one else, really -- it's a very fluid situation. [19]

Based on the company road map made available to the public, I think Tesla is still at the low end of its exponential growth curve. [19] With a lightweight frame and smaller battery, the AM1 ebike from Analog Motion looks to upend the way companies think an ebike should ride and look. [18] Given that TSLA is in a pretty distressed situation, one has to think there's potential for an exit at this point. [19]

While the market is responding well to the presentation (shares were rising 1.5% in premarket trading), the reality is that Tesla has to release numbers to back up Musk's latest claims. [20] Elon Musk's Boring Company has won a bid to connect O'Hare Airport with downtown Chicago via high-speed train, sources told Bloomberg. [32] As part of LTA's efforts to build a more environmentally friendly bus fleet, a tender was called last December to procure 60 electric buses, and more will be deployed for service by next year. [16] HDT Singapore Taxi is also conducting an all-electric trial of 100 electric taxis to determine the feasibility of using the vehicles for its operations, said the LTA. [16] This Wednesday, June 27, 2018 photo shows the giant replica electric guitar outside the Hard Rock casino in Atlantic City, N.J. after it was illuminated on the casino's first night of operation. [18] Electric vehicles can be intimidating for first time buyers. [18] From hybrids and electric vehicles to a new look Big Three, here's a look at how things are changing in the auto industry. [18]

Amid Tesla's efforts to ramp up the production of its Model 3 sedan, Musk took to Twitter to reveal that he was thinking about letting car owners participate in the assembly of a Tesla vehicle. [23] As Musk pointed out, it would be challenging to schedule a Tesla owner's visit with their vehicle entering a particular stage of the production process where the experience-lacking car owners can be allowed to work on the automobiles. [23]

Tesla missed their Q4 production target by far, as only 2,425 vehicles were produced during the entire 3-month period. 5 months before, Musk claimed on Twitter that Tesla would be able to produce 20,000 Model 3 per month by December of the same year. [22] Musk said that 5% of reservations correspond to the maximum of two vehicles allowed per customer, "suggesting low levels of speculation", and that 93% of Model 3 reservations are from new buyers who do not currently own a Tesla. [22]

"Elon Musk: Tesla is developing a special kind of glass for its Model 3". [22] "Elon Musk shares video of near-final Model 3, but says he won't drive one". [22] An analyst with Cowan and Company, an investment banking firm, said "Elon Musk needs to stop over-promising and under-delivering". [22] Elon Reeve Musk (born June 28, 1971) is a South African-born American entrepreneur and businessman who founded X.com in 1999 (which later became PayPal), SpaceX in 2002 and Tesla Motors in 2003. [11]

Musk isn't stupid and knows well that any company-wide email like this is going to leak so you can't exactly blame him for using the opportunity to hype the idea that Tesla is finally going to reach the goal of making 5k Model 3's per week. [27] I think Musk gets it and his job is just to keep the cash flowing until Tesla can get their production system scaled up and stable. [27] After signaling that the company would reorganize its management structure, Musk in June announced that Tesla was laying off 9 percent of its workforce, though its production department would remain intact. [11] Musk said that Tesla is trying to get the cost of Model 3 insurance lower, with the automaker apparently working with insurance companies to get prices significantly under what you'd pay for one of those competing gasoline sedans. [24] By design, Musk has said previously Tesla has focused on more expensive configurations of the EV. However, that hasn't stopped demand from would-be Model 3 buyers who want to spend the bare minimum. [24] Electrek's Frederic Lambert messaged Musk with the suggestion that instead of building just about any Tesla vehicle, owners would enjoy the experience more if they could build their own vehicle. [23] Musk should stay on at Tesla but not as CEO. Tesla is becoming way to big for him to try and micromanage. [26] This isn't the first time Musk has proposed the idea of turning Tesla manufacturing plants into tourist attractions. [23] Outside of his roles at SpaceX and Tesla, Musk has continually attempted to make his innovative ideas a reality. [11] In November, Musk made another splash with the unveiling of the new Tesla Semi and Roadster at the company's design studio. [11] In the email, Musk said "the investigation will continue in depth this week" to "figure out if was acting alone or with others at Tesla and if he was working with any outside organizations." [27] "The reports that Musk was in Israel to discuss a collaboration between Tesla and Cortica are completely false, he was in Israel, but not to meet or have discussions with Cortica," said a Tesla spokesman based in Palo Alto, Ca. [10] What i was trying to say: the vote didn't matter because Tesla wasn't going to kick Musk to the curb regardless of the results. [26] Now, CNBC has learned that Musk also sent an e-mail to all employees at Tesla late on Sunday night alleging that he has discovered a saboteur in the company's ranks. [27] Musk didn't start Tesla because he thought EVs were the future and wanted to get in on it early (he may believe that, but that's not the reason he started Tesla). [27] No matter what, no matter who is behind it, Musk will run Tesla. [25] Allegedly the image was also used in a Christmas card sent from Musk to Tesla owners. [28] In 2016, Musk tried to lobby a "Tesla Tourism" bill with the aim to spur "industrial tourism." [23] Musk, and Tesla, threaten to disrupt not one, but three trillion-dollar industries and turn them upside down - auto, electricity, and transport fuels." [21]

In January 2016, Musk said that the first official pictures of the car will be revealed at the end of March 2016. [22] Musk wanted customers to visit the factory, pick up their car, take a tour, and make a whole experience out of it. [23]

We predict Tesla will become cash flow positive before they run out, and will only need financing next year for growth - new Gigafactories, new models like MY, etc. And many of us have put $$ behind that prediction by buying stock, or even just by buying their car. [25] They've read quotes from all the CEOs saying their car companies can do electric, better than Tesla, whenever they feel like it, so this must be a flash in the pan. [25] Waymo has agreements for something like 80,000 cars over the next several years but Tesla already has twice that many on the road and in 3-4 years they will have 10 times that many. [26] During the Model 3 unveiling event, Tesla said that over 115,000 people had reserved the Model 3 in less than 24 hours prior; more cars than Tesla had sold by that time. 24 hours after opening reservations, Tesla had advanced orders for over 180,000 cars. [22] Fortunately I lived in a country where the regulator had teeth and they forced GM to not only tow and fix the car but also re-imburse me for the rental costs for delaying me as long as they did). - Tesla invested in a mobile repair fleet sending people out to customer's houses for this kind of stuff. - A consumer reports came out with a sub par rating for the Model 3 brakes. [27] Employees of Tesla and SpaceX were given early access to Model 3 reservation, and about 10,000 signed up without discount, scheduled to receive the first batch of cars. [22] Tesla's first production car, the Tesla Roadster, was one of the first commercially available highway-capable all-electric cars on the market. [28] This will be lower than the Tesla Model S drag coefficient of C d 0.24, which, in 2014, was the lowest among current production cars. [22] Within a week of unveiling the Model 3 in 2016, Tesla revealed they had taken 325,000 reservations for the car, more than triple the number of Model S sedans sold by the end of 2015. [22] Popular Mechanics named the Tesla Model 3 the magazine's Car of the Year. [22] It is your (and the other shorter trolls like gaggagme and little dan's) shorter arguments that are bankrupt as Tesla has over 20 Billions$ in orders for the Model 3 which is ramping up speedily now and as more and more of these excellent cars get out there the order book will continue to grow. [21] Tesla delivered 1,542 Model 3 cars in the fourth quarter of 2017, about 2,900 less than Wall Street estimations, which were already halved previously after Tesla published the company's third quarter report. [22] "Tesla Model 3's design praised by famed car design critic Robert Cumberford". [22] Which is really another help to Tesla, and adding insult to injury in regards to imported cars, and also domestic companies who have a lot of vehicles made in Canada & Mexico, and brought into the states, GM & Ford for example. [21] If Tesla hits its production quotas in 2019, they should sell about 500,000-750,000 cars. [27] Was thinking of offering an extended Tesla factory tour option where you could help build part of a car & understand how they come together. [23] For instance, if it costs Tesla ~$28,000 to build a $49,000 car, that is a $21,000 profit margin at up to 20,000 units per month. [25] The problem is Tesla are building cars in a completely new way, and those machines have to be tuned and revised before they hum. [27] Tesla is building their fleet of self-driving cars already. [26] Potential customers were first able to reserve a car at Tesla stores or online on March 31 with a refundable deposit of $1000. [22] Then you won't want to ever buy a car from companies such as Honda or Toyota (or any car company for that matter), provided it is the first model year of a new engine, new body, or both. [27] Every car company has issues with the first year model of a new model or engine, guaranteed. [27]

Company officials said the standard model of the all-electric car will have an estimated EPA-rated range of 220 miles (350km), a five-passenger seating capacity, front and rear trunks, and promised sports car levels of acceleration performance. [22]

In April 2017, Tesla announced that it surpassed General Motors to become the most valuable U.S. car maker. [11] Tesla manufactures cars at their highly-automated factory in Fremont, Calif. The plant was previously used as a collaboration between General Motors and Toyota. [28] Now that's a lot of ifs, but really all it depends on Tesla being able to make cars (not that hard) and people being willing to buy them on-line (which probably has already been proved). [27] When you look at Tesla from the tech/energy standpoint, you realize that cars are just one facet of where their value is. [25] If anything, Tesla allows manufacturers to delay rolling out their own EV, since they can just buy ZEV credits from Tesla instead (many low-volume high-end exotic car makers are choosing to do this). [27] If your response to this is "Tesla loses money overall so they aren't making money on their cars" please save yourself the typing. [26] "This is going to be a much, much higher-volume car, and if there are any quality issues, that could overwhelm the service centers and undermine the Tesla brand." [22] "Tesla puts pedal to the metal, 500,000 cars planned in 2018". [22] Tesla stepped up and fixed it. - Telsa recalling cars with actual faults quickly and voluntarily. [27] Tesla does have sales locations you can bring your car to for service -they are just not 3rd party dealerships. [27] I remember the flat-out lies newspaper testreports told about the range of Tesla cars and that were uncovered by the logs the car had recorded about how it actually had been driven. [27] Tesla didn't lose because the judge found that Clarkson had performed a fair test of their car. [27] He told his local paper Westword however that he then discovered the image was being used in Tesla cars as an icon. [28]

Limited production of the Model 3 began in mid-2017, with the first production vehicle rolling off the assembly line on July 7, 2017, and the official launch and delivery of the first 30 cars on July 28. [22] Car-design columnist and former car designer for GM Robert Cumberford said the Model 3 "is an excellent design" and praised the front fascia skin that he thinks is superior to the black plastic simulated grille of the pre-refresh Model S. Cumberford praised the Model 3's minimalist design, and "elegant simplicity" akin to Apple products. [22] EU states). --Incidentally, I think a really interesting question is if by a few years cars will already be trending toward BEV w/o any ICE penalties because of some cost advantage or consumer demand anyhow or will BEV/ICE need more a honey & stick approach.) [26] I think the other manufacturers are happy to have poor charging options because it's another way to keep people buying ICE cars for a little while longer. [27]

Systematic sabotage at Tesla? Really way more likely than most people would think, IMHO. [27] If you really think Tesla has a money problem, or that Elon can't manage his business, let's hear when you think Tesla will run out of cash. [25] Just like with Apple and Jobs, Elon will be the sole reason Tesla not only survives, but explodes over the next decade. [25] Supply security from Tesla perspective is critical since they don't need to worry about a VW waltzing in and out-bidding them; generally speaking Tesla can abhors battery disruptions as it'd be a mortal threat so GF fits a perfect role. ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Learning_curve#Examples_and_mathematical_modeling ) JB and Elon have both spoken about it, and it's been present in PV. [26] Elon has spoken of preferring to do the hard-lifting internally to avoid suppliers selling any shared painstaking gains to competitors at competitive-advantage loss to Tesla or (or SpaceX for that matter.) [26] There are a lot of comments about Tesla going under, Elon with securities fraud, and so on. [26] You can pretty much rule out most, if not all of the LICE majors, as they are patiently waiting for St. Elon to fall on his sword, in a looming Tesla operating capital cash crunch. [21]

"When I turned on my car this morning, Elon wished me a Merry Christmas using a counterfeit Wally design," a friend of Edwards reported. [28] When a car model is brand new or "completely redesigned," that can mean new parts, new systems--and new problems. [22] They know what car you have, and what version of what model it is. [27] Five years after its formation, in 2008, the company unveiled the Roadster, a sports car capable of accelerating from 0 to 60 mph in 3.7 seconds, as well traveling nearly 250 miles between charges of its lithium ion battery. [11] The Roadster, set to follow in 2020, will become the fastest production car ever made with its 0 to 60 time of 1.9 seconds. [11] Daimler, like most automakers, is incredibly conservative with what they put out in production cars on the self-driving front. [26] Global car sales last year were something like 86 million last year. [26] Automotive journalist Doug DeMuro said the Model 3 was better, though $2,000 more expensive than, the BMW 340i and that it was the "coolest car of the year," later clarifying that this was based on the "long waiting lists, obsessive interest and news stories." [22] The first Model 3 cars were delivered in 2012 after being announced in 2008. [28] The previous record for advance deposits on a car was the 1955 Citro"n DS that had 80,000 deposits during the ten days of the Paris Auto Show, while the Model 3 had 232,000 reservations in two days. [22] "Confirmed: Our Gen III car, due out after Model X, will be named Model 3" (Tweet). [22] Since January 2018, the Model 3 has remained the top-selling plug-in car in the U.S. each month. [22] In May 2018, Consumer Reports Model 3 testing found "big flaws -- such as long stopping distances in our emergency braking test and difficult-to-use controls", finding the braking distance worse than a Ford F-150 full-size pickup truck, and causing it to not recommend the car. [22]

The caption on the mug reads: "Electric cars are good for the environment because electricity comes from magic." [28]

Tesla vertically integrates products in energy generation (solar), storage (batteries), and use (electric vehicles), to accelerate the world's transition to sustainable energy. [26] With their building capacity and electric eco-systems approach along with unparalleled customer satisfaction and mindshare, be prepared for ever more rapid expansion by Tesla and the massive profits that will follow. [21] A Nissan Leaf is also electric, just does not have the range of a Tesla. [27]

The company plans for the Model 3 are part of Tesla's three-step strategy to start with a high-price vehicle and move progressively towards lower-cost vehicles, while the battery and electric drivetrain were improved and paid for through the sales of the Roadster, Model S, and Model X vehicles. [22] Here we have a man, Elon, who 10 Years ago started selling his first electric Roadster, during one of the worst economic downturns since the great depression. [25] I don't think this is comparable to Elon, because Elon is clearly capable of making sane design, engineering and business decisions, where Steve was not, back in the early 1980s. [26] For all the talk of production holdups, it'd be easy to think that there are very few Tesla Model 3 on the roads. [24] Well the short keep saying Tesla is "burning cash" to the point where they actually think Tesla is burning cash, literally. [21] I def. think competitors will benefit from price reductions from the major players getting into Lithium, but for the short to intermediate term, the advantage goes to Tesla. [26] I think we all agree Waymo is the leader, but as far as competitive advantages go I believe Tesla has something nobody else does. [26] Why would anybody in their right mind think Tesla would ever go bankrupt? And why would anyone ever accuse someone else of thinking that Tesla would go bankrupt. [25] You shorts REALLY think he's going to allow Tesla to go bankrupt. [25] Because the rest of us don't think Tesla will run out of cash. [25] I don't think there's any question cost/kWh is leading, Tesla is the only one at that kind of scale right now. [26]

Either way, though, if Tesla gets to the point where it needs to be "saved" like this it's fair to classify the venture as a management fail on Musk's part, and a validation for naysayers. [25] Musk : we're not taking any action that would cause the Model 3 timeline to be extended in any way. : We're still highly confident of reaching volume production in the second half of next year. [22] Mr. Musk has just finished building his third assembly line for the Model 3. [21] Musk founded his third company, Space Exploration Technologies Corporation, or SpaceX, in 2002 with the intention of building spacecraft for commercial space travel. [11] On May 22, 2012, Musk and SpaceX made history when the company launched its Falcon 9 rocket into space with an unmanned capsule. [11] Musk made headlines in May 2012, when SpaceX launched a rocket that would send the first commercial vehicle to the International Space Station. [11]

By early November 2017, Musk postponed the target date for manufacturing 5,000 of the vehicles per week from December 2017 to March 2018. [22]

His Tesla Motors Inc. announced an all-stock deal purchase of SolarCity Corp., a company Musk had helped his cousins start in 2006. [11] Musk became a multimillionaire in his late 20s when he sold his start-up company, Zip2, to a division of Compaq Computers. [11] In 1999, Musk co-founded X.com, an online financial services/payments company. [11] Arson? Arson is a common refrain from Musk? The company has had some problems, to be sure, but this is not a standard excuse. [27] This is a perfectly normal looking company email from Musk. [27]

In late November 2017, after Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel asked for proposals to build and operate a high-speed rail line that would transport passengers from O'Hare Airport to downtown Chicago in 20 minutes or less, Musk tweeted that he was all-in on the competition with his Boring Company. [11] You can send out a message about finding a potential saboteur, stating your suspicions that they aren't alone, reminding people of the need for security and confidentiality, and providing the line to allow whistleblowing, without mentioning half the details Musk has. [27] In September 2017, Musk presented an updated design plan for his BFR (an acronym for either "Big Fing Rocket" or "Big Falcon Rocket"), a 31-engine behemoth topped by a spaceship capable of carrying at least 100 people. [11] In 2017, it was also revealed that Musk was backing a venture called Neuralink, which intends to create devices to be implanted in the human brain and help people merge with software. [11]

Upon its release in July 2017, there had been over 500,000 reservations for the Model 3, with Musk later clarifying there were a net of 455,000 reservations outstanding. [22] The name Model 3, originally stylized as "Model ?", was announced on Musk's Twitter account on July 16, 2014, however, the intended name was Model E that was abandoned due to Ford's trademark on the name; Musk wanted the three current models to spell SEX, but settled with "S3X". [22] Did You Know? In April 2017, Musk's Tesla Motors surpassed General Motors to become the most valuable U.S. car maker. [11] Which company will fare better when that happens, the one who sells 90% ICEs because they expect the customers will patiently wait decades for the transition to occur, or the one selling 100% EVs? What happens when demand slumps for ICE cars that already have razor thin margins? A look at GM in 2008 might give you a clue. [26] Maybe it's because they are dealing with a company that stands behind their products, repairs and upgrades them, and resolves issues if they are discovered, and are not dealing with a car manufacturer. [27] Then there are the multitude of big gas/diesel car company competitors. [27] Given current car utilization rates of 5% even (95% time it's idle), even a few percent increase in utilization would put non-trivial negative pressure on unit volume demand of new vehicles; that would be felt by whole ICE ecosystem. [26] Capable of covering 265 miles between charges, the Model S was honored as the 2013 Car of the Year by Motor Trend magazine. [11] Even if every single new car sold was a BEV by 2025, that's still 7 years down the road. [26] "I don't want a brand new car that needs to be repaired because it wasn't adequately QCd in the first place." [27] Production of the $35k car is expected to start by the end of 2018, the chief exec promised. [24] It is not an attempt to bolster production, but for car owners to enjoy a unique experience. [23] He's stated that he will move car production right next to battery production. [21] People don't buy cars regularly enough for a fast change to EVs. Like everything else with the auto industry, it's going to be a gradual change, because that's how the market works. [26] That learning curve is part of why cars like the Leaf, Bolt, i3, etc are made even if the project results in a net loss. [26] Because every little part works? If their mentality is "either buy a car from us or don't buy at all", it's not inconsistent with trying to delay Tesla's progress as much as possible regardless of circumstances. [27] Tesla's problem was they decided to build a brand new car in a brand new plant in a stupidly ambitious timeframe. [27] Tesla's allure has never just been its cars its Supercharger network has always been a wildcard in the EV game. [24] A rendering shows the so-called Gigafactory currently under construction in Nevada, which will produce batteries for Tesla's cars. [28]

I assume, you took the appropriate car to the appropriate dealer and either waited around or got a loaner or something like that while they fixed the problem. [27] There are things I don't like about the car (over-reliance on the center screen, door handles, etc.). [27]

Even at that point, it would take well over a decade beyond that to phase out most of the used cars on the road that manufacturers still make money on via parts and whatnot. [26] These automakers outsource nearly every part of the car except the engine so their in-house engineering talent is all geared towards combustion engines. [26] Tel Aviv-based Cortica says its technology enables self-driving cars to identify moving parts in its environment and make informed decisions, even predicting changes likely to occur in its surroundings. [10] My supposition would be that oil leases, car factories, dealer lots, anything that sits on land and is part of the legacy car industry would be hurt, thus managers of those properties would be too. [21] When analyzed through this lens, it's understandable that "everyone from the far right, through to car salesmen, property managers, big investors, fossils fuel giants, coal generators, conservative politicians and commentators, and Big Oil do not want him to succeed. [21] What would you do in that situation? Oh, and don't forget the car dealerships, the Oil companies and the auto unions. [27] That would be disastrous for pretty much all the companies that sell cars in the U.S. (GM, Ford, Toyota, Daimler, BMW, etc). [27] What happens when demand slumps for ICE cars that already have razor thin margins? A look at GM in 2008 might give you a clue. [26] The only way the BEV was practical for me was because I also still had my ICE car. [27] The point was to give out-of-state car owners a California tax waiver since California generally has a higher tax rate. [23] It's not difficult to build a longer-range, faster-charging car. [26] Most people people want to be able to do those long drives occasionally. $35k is a lot of money for a car that is only a commuter car. [27] Not sure why sabotage is any more unlikely than the corporate espionage that is alleged to have already happened in the self-driving car space. [27] Just as on the Model S and Model X, the car has the Autopilot hardware whether or not you pay for the system. [24] The Model S P85D, a high-power variant of the S, makes an equivalent of 691 horsepower, according to Car & Driver. [28]

Automotive industry analyst Toni Sacconaghi of AllianceBernstein said after driving the latest Tesla vehicle in November 2017 that "Overall, we found the Model 3 to be a compelling offering, and believe it is likely to further galvanize the overall Electric Vehicle category." [22] If you are buying an electric vehicle for commuting to work and nothing else a Tesla does not make economic sense. [27]

I agree with some that should Tesla go up again to $380 again it could arguably be a very good entry point for a short for someone with lots of money and a gambler mindset (which I don't have, I do not invest in stock markets, I just have fun reading news about it). [21]

In early July 2017, Musk forecast at least six months of serious production difficulties. [22] It also didn't prevent Musk from garnering a radical new compensation package as CEO, in which he would be paid after reaching milestones of growing valuation based on $50 billion increments. [11] Musk noted that the Hyperloop could take from seven to 10 years to be built and ready for use. [11] Now, the third-generation Superchargers are fast incoming, with Musk saying they were expected to deploy by the end of the year. [24] Now, Musk is taking things to the next level by giving customers the opportunity to be a part of the building process. [23] Musk runs TSLA. Or TSLA hits 200$, shorts make 10 billion, Musk takes TSLA private, with cash from SpaceX, Musk runs TSLA. [25] They grudgingly admit that the clean energy transition is coming, they just don?t like the speed with which Musk is bringing it." [21] In an email to employees, Musk explained his decision to eliminate some "duplication of roles" to cut costs, admitting it was time to take serious steps toward turning a profit. [11] Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu told a cabinet meeting on Tuesday he had met Musk and that they discussed the potential of solar energy generation in the Negev desert. [10] These nuts will get pretty desperate with so much money on the line - I hope Musk has good security, both for himself and the factory. [25] If they didn?t have faith in Musk than they wouldn?t be shareholders. [26] "Analysis - Sleepless nights, broken robots and mounting pressure: Musk offers rare glimpse inside Tesla's 'production hell ' ". [22] A few months later, on March 30, Musk tweeted a picture showing off Tesla's new "sketch pad" function. [28]

After The Guardian reported on the story Musk tweeted claiming the article was "bs in every possible way" and that he offered twice to pay Edwards for his work. [28] The boundless potential of space exploration and the preservation of the future of the human race have become the cornerstones of Musk's abiding interests, and toward these he has founded the Musk Foundation, which is dedicated to space exploration and the discovery of renewable and clean energy sources. [11]

Elon gave a short speech right after the vote result announcement and tearing up about the mission and the company. [26] Yeah like Elon is so dumb that he could not just show a pic of a line inside the building if he intended to fool anyone. [25] Elon gives dates and ranges of dates and vague time frames like 'a few days','soon' and 'before long' perfectly OK that he might be perceived as wrong. [25] At 10, around the time his parents divorced, the introverted Elon developed an interest in computers. [11] Elon is great at a lot of things but the managing the boring stuff needs to get done and that's not something his great at. [26] Fortunately for everyone that did not work for those real good companies and unfortunately for them Elon is fighting back now. [25]

Of all of Elon Musk's promises that have come to haunt him, announcing the Model 3 would start at $35,000 must rank among the top few. [24]

He just codifies his internal emotion towards something and sends that out to the world as a quotable company statement, rather than thinks or checks or moderates. [27] I don't think they would be in position to do that, if they wanted they could pick any other company as well. [27] I think they did about 100000 last year, and currently they already are at a 250000/year(3000 M3 per week+100000 X+S) rate. [27] A few years? How quickly do you think the world is suddenly going to start buying ~90 million EVs per year? This is not something that's going to happen overnight. [26] Companies do actually think 5 and 10 years into the future. [27]

They think Trump is doing such a great job but May 2018 budget deficit was $147 billion and the tax cuts to corporations went to share buy backs CEO and executives compensation. 10% tax on money held overseas. [21] False and with how much time you spend here I think you know that. [26] Other good examples I can think of are investors who are looking at business side all liked Netflix and Amazon. [25] Large institutional investors are aligning their politics on what they think their clients/investors wants and what is available on the markets, no matter their own opinions. [21]

Def. think Premium positioning is a revenue/volume asset, but VW did damage control, people are oblivious, and China was a growth spot. [26] People tend to think manufacturing assembly is easy and it's actually one of the hardest things to do well you can imagine. [27] Without the Supercharger network, you're definitely going to want to rent an ICE. Sure, some people do road trips in a Bolt, but I think it's more a thing to try than an experience you would want to repeat often. [27] Given Toyota insisting on fuel cells, I think the later has its head 1/2 buried in sand too, but signs of working its way out with more serious BEV investments. [26] You would think it would be news and something that he would be required to inform stock holders of, before sending it to all employees and letting the stock holders find out about it in the papers after doing that. [27]

Ford cannot just discard their current production lines and go all electric due to many factors, not least of which being internal politics. [27] Regular hybrids aren't maintenance traps like you imply, and a plug in hybrid would be lower maintenance (much more time using the electric vs the gas compared to a regular hybrid). [27] A plug-in isn't going to be efficient as a pure EV (less regeneration because the battery is smaller), it's going to need maintenance of the ICE, and it's not as much fun to drive (small electric motor and small ICE). [27] Additional successes include the Model S, the company's first electric sedan. [11] Note, he was shipping batteries by truck from NV to CA, and decided to build an electric Semi, for fuel savings. [21]

Vanity Fair and others compared the Model 3 to the Ford Model T for its intended affordability as a volume-produced electric vehicle and for its limited set of options, namely range, wheels and exterior color of which all but black costs extra. [22] There is no doubt in my mind that an electric vehicle with ~200 miles of range is sufficient for a large percentage of commuting which is probably the majority of miles driven by most people.
