[1] Two very notable ways technology propels innovation forward is that it boosts tinkering and experimentation, and that in itself accelerates innovation processes. [1] Digital technology and the new technologies that it enables (like AR, VR and AI) cut the traditional industrial age innovation process short. [1] Technology is also an enabler for experimenting with new ideas and testing out new concepts, and organizations that understand how to utilize new tech in this phase of innovation will gain leverage that other organizations lack. [1]

They differentiate ” novel-product innovation,” in which “the creator conjures an entirely new technology or product,” from ” incremental and process innovation, ” which represents “improvements in how goods or services are designed, produced, distributed, and serviced.” 7 Breznitz and Cowhey note that process innovation has the larger impact on economic growth, particularly when it comes to growth in jobs. [2] Information technology and changing business processes and management style can produce a work climate favorable to innovation. [3] The University of Virginia Darden School of Business has announced a new competitive scholarship program intended to attract and support top students interested in entrepreneurship, innovation and technology. MIT economist Eric von Hippel has identified end-user innovation as, by far, the most important and critical in his classic book on the subject, The Sources of Innovation. Unfortunately, while Democrats can be accused of indifference to important economic issues, Republicans actually harbor deep ideological opposition to the institutional reforms needed to revive U.S. manufacturing innovation. [2] This total politicization of everyday life along tightly prescribed lines, however, has nothing to say about the causes of the decline in manufacturing innovation and its effects on U.S. workers. [2] These institutions could overcome the key deficiency in the U.S. innovation system: the lack of applied R&D. [2] Ignoring downstream innovation and manufacturing has upstream consequences: America’s lead in advanced in R&D has been eroded by its neglect of applied R&D. [2] Although an innovation intermediary sounds like a theoretical construct, these organizations actually form a core part of other nations? manufacturing ecosystems. [2] Common causes of failure within the innovation process in most organizations can be distilled into five types: poor goal definition, poor alignment of actions to goals, poor participation in teams, poor monitoring of results, poor communication and access to information. [3] Two main dimensions of innovation were degree of novelty (patent) (i.e. whether an innovation is new to the firm, new to the market, new to the industry, or new to the world) and type of innovation (i.e. whether it is process or product-service system innovation). [3] They categorized these measures along five dimensions i.e. inputs to the innovation process, output from the innovation process, effect of the innovation output, measures to access the activities in an innovation process and availability of factors that facilitate such a process. [3] This process has been proposed that the life cycle of innovations can be described using the ‘ s-curve ‘ or diffusion curve. [3]
