POSSIBLY USEFUL

They do this with your basic information they always make public which is, according to Facebook, ". your name, gender, username and user ID (account number), profile picture, cover photo and networks." [1] Hackers can also download a fake app that can mimic Facebook or Messenger's interface, Sekar said, which may also be used to prompt a user to put in information, like a password, that can be used by someone else. [2]

Note: These screenshots were captured in the Messenger app on iOS. Also note, blocking messages from someone on Messenger is not the same thing as blocking the person on Facebook. [3] This will take you to a list of the users you've blocked on Messenger and/or Facebook. [3] It's how Cambridge Analytica, the company was recently suspended by Facebook while under investigation for election interference, was able to access the data of more than 50 million users in 2014. [1] If you want to dig in even further, Facebook has a page explaining the basics of Facebook privacy tools as well as Facebook's latest data policies. [1] Facebook Live - private, friends or public? For live video stream posts from your smartphone, the default setting for each video stream will be the privacy level you set for regular posts and photos. [1] According to facebook, "When you tag someone, that content (ex: photo, post) may be shared with the person tagged and their friends. [1] Review tags people add to your own posts before the tags appear on Facebook? This is an important option if you are concerned about a photo appearing on your profile. [1] Ads on apps and websites off of the Facebook Companies Since Facebook operates its own ad network of sites, it can also target you with ads even when you're not browsing Facebook - essentially, at any site that uses its ad technology. [1] Even if you've always turned off targeted ads based on browsing (above), Facebook can use information on your profile, such as Likes, to create ad preferences. [1] This does not stop Facebook from using this information to categorize your profile for advertisers, or from ads being shown. [1]

Business pages are intended to be information for the public about a business, so there is no Facebook privacy setting to make them private or just for friends. [1] If you like, comment on or share a Page (say, owned by a business or brand), Facebook can broadcast it as an advertisement to all your friends. [1] Every time someone sends you a message on Facebook if they are your friend you will get an alert that they messaged you. [4] It gets more complicatedAgain, according to Facebook, "The audience also expands to Friends (+) when others tag your post or photo." [1] That way your Friends can wish you happy birthday on Facebook on your special day without necessarily knowing your exact age. [1] Using this and the below setting in conjunction with manually approving what photos and updates you've been tagged in goes a long way to keep prying eyes away from more sensitive Facebook updates. [1] You handled a lot of this with the Privacy Checkup, but in the Settings section there are additional controls for the apps where you've logged in with Facebook. [1] As of 2016, Facebook added an additional security feature called "secret conversations," which offers an encryption enhancement that Sekar says is similar to default features from messaging apps WhatsApp (which Facebook owns) and Signal. [2] According to Facebook, Messenger uses the same secure communications protocols as banking and shopping sites. [2] When you reply from Front we use the Facebook Front application that is linked to your page, so this error will occur if the recipient closes the chat or blocks you. [5]

Facebook Platform provides third parties access to personal data you share with Facebook. [1] The messages are end-to-end encrypted, which means not even Facebook can access them. [2] If it's your first time, you'll also want to grant Facebook permission to access your camera and microphone. [1] Unfortunately, there appears to be no way to hide your last active time on Facebook. [1] Facebook shares information on how some of its security works, while Vyas Sekar, a faculty member of CyLab at Carnegie Melon University and a professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering, breaks down how someone might still find ways around it. [2]

Tap to edit and select an audience from options of Friends, friends minus a couple no-no's for reasons of your own, or public to be viewable by anyone on or off Facebook. [1] I am divoreced and still friends with my ex on facebook for the sake of our kids. [1]

Some apps and Facebook games are great fun at first, but after a while, you want to drop them. [1] We don't delete the old comments because often the questions asked and answered are still the same common issues people are facing with current versions of Facebook. [1] You can delete them all to start afresh, or if you want no interest-based ads on or off Facebook. [1] Regardless, you'll most likely still receive targeted ads outside Facebook that are based on your age, gender and location, as well as browsing activity on sites that are part of other ad networks. [1] Rather than creating a new guide every time Facebook updates its policies, we update the existing guide and add the update date to the bottom. [1] I suggest subscribing to that to get updates from Facebook when it has been resolved. [5] I am not as sure of the answer if you don't allow the tagged posts to show in your timeline (also controlled through your Facebook privacy settings). [1] It is possible that Facebook MAY show the post in the other friend's feed if you're tagged. [1] Facebook doesn't allow you to turn off comments for a single post. [1]

The permission is trickily worded - it asks if it can use your Facebook ad preferences, so choose Yes and make sure you review the section below entitled Ad Preferences. [1] As the above suggests, Facebook is generally a bad place to hold conversations you truly want to keep private. [1] If you go directly to Facebook, you'll be able to reply to this recipient even if the conversation is deleted. [5]

You can hide public Groups from your Facebook profile by going to the Groups section and hitting the edit button in the upper right corner of the Group you want to hide. [1] Facebook assures you that those blocked people will never know that they are blocked. [1] Privacy concerns and privacy controls on Facebook are ever changing. [1] This is one of those cases where giving up another component of your privacy is the price you pay for being on Facebook. [1]

Below is our step-by-step guide to taking full control of your Facebook privacy settings. [1] You never know how or if something is going to leak out because you got the privacy settings wrong or because of a Facebook privacy quirk. [1]

If you choose to keep Facebook Platform enabled, you can limit your exposure by selecting the data that apps that your Facebook Friends use can access. [1] When your Facebook friends use certain apps, those apps access your public information and more. [1]

Messenger doesn't have to be installed to use Facebook, it is a separate app. I was commenting on some of the common "solutions" I found elsewhere which propose removing Facebook Messenger to fix this issue - it doesn't work. [1] While these encryption options are on by default in apps like WhatsApp and Signal, users must choose to activate encryption on Facebook Messenger. [2] Facebook Messenger allows users to send and receive text messages as well as photos and video. [6] Have you ever wanted to stop someone from being able to contact you on Facebook Messenger ? Our guide will show you how to block messages from the user within the Messenger application. [3] Facebook Messenger is having issues since 2:37 PM EDT. Are you also affected? Leave a message in the comments. [7]

Facebook's Messenger feature and app already include a fair amount of security. [2] Since a major route around Facebook's protections involves gaining access to a person's phone, one way to help ensure your messages won't be read is keeping your device secure, Sekar says. [2] Facebook's algorithms control what ends up in the news feeds of your friends. [1] Remember the Candy Crush Facebook game you played too much last year? How about that Instagram Facebook app you forgot you installed? Each app on the site you agreed to install has permission to post to your Friends list unless you told it otherwise at the time you installed it. [1] If you have joined any Facebook groups or made lists of Facebook friends, you can restrict the posts that way or hide your posts from those groups and lists as well. [1] Tap "Friends and Connections" to allow your Facebook friends, as well as your Messenger connections, to view your Story. [8]

It's also possible for hackers to target a user's Facebook password by using password-cracking tools or exploiting the ability to reset a password, then use that to sign into a victim's Facebook account. [2] Advertisers and others may still access this information, especially if you are using the Facebook app which tracks your location automatically. [1] Facebook Platform also enables third parties you engage with to collect information on your Facebook friends. [1] Often a Facebook friend of yours will make a post and tag you in it. [1] This applies only to photo tagging by your Facebook friends. [1]

Uninstalling Facebook Messenger isn't the answer because I don't have Facebook Messenger installed on my device yet my last active time is still displayed. [1] Over a billion people communicate through Facebook Messenger every day. [2]

Fortunately, thanks to vocal demands for transparency from both Facebook users and government regulators around the world, Facebook has been making the process of managing your privacy easier. [1] Is that discount fashion site you liked bombarding you with updates from its Facebook Page? Block 'em here, where you'll also automatically unlike and unfollow the Page. [1]

If you're not ready to dive into Facebook's substantial settings menu, there's a more user-friendly guide through the more vital privacy settings. [1]

While preventing ethnic violence across the world may be a valid reason to scan Messenger emails, a more recent news story underscores that Facebook executives and officials have increased "god mode" access to their services, and use that power to do shady things that normal users have no idea about. [9] After TechCrunch reported that Facebook has been quietly deleting messages CEO Mark Zuckerberg has sent via Messenger, the company is now saying that the ability to retract messages will soon be available to all Messenger users. [10] Facebook messages that Mark Zuckerberg and other Facebook executives sent to other users on the social network were recently found to be deleted from those user's inboxes, TechCrunch reported Friday. [11] Facebook doesn't allow users to delete messages from a recipients inbox, which suggests that Zuckerberg has special treatment on the social network. [11] Facebook was able to remotely delete messages Zuckerberg sent, a feature that isn't available to all users. [11]

CNBC recently explained how to download all of your private data from Facebook, and that data include old chat messages that you might have exchanged with other users on Facebook. [11] Facebook is also getting rid of its Facebook Direct feature for private ephemeral messaging, and instead will route all Stories replies and Facebook Camera messages through Messenger. [12] Beyond cross-posting and synced viewing, Facebook is also implementing new privacy controls for Stories that run across both its main app and Messenger. [12] "We needed to make it easier for people to share Stories across different apps," Facebook product manager Connor Hayes tells me. [12]

Several people who have chatted with Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg say that when they checked their conversations later, all of Zuckerberg's messages had been deleted, according to TechCrunch. [9] When these people looked at their conversations with Facebook, only their messages remained. [9]

It could foreshadow Facebook launching a more legitimate ephemeral messaging feature inside Messenger, which already has 1.3 billion monthly users. [12] Facebook confirmed to CNBC that it will roll out a feature that's similar to the one Mark Zuckerberg used to all users. [11]

The cameras in Facebook and Messenger will remain distinct, with Facebook's focused on augmented reality masks and effects, while Messenger focuses on adding captions and stylized text inviting friends to hang out. [12] This isn't a feature in Messenger -- it's exclusively available to Facebook executives and officials -- but after it was caught Facebook said it was in " full compliance with our legal obligations " and said it would add an unsend feature for everyone at some point. [9] For now though, Facebook tells me ephemeral messaging is not an option in Messenger and it doesn't have anything to share on future plans here. [12] As revelations over the past weeks and months have made clear, Facebook has its own set of rules for your Messenger inbox. [9] You can download your own archive of this data from Facebook. [13] It's also the data that Facebook can use to learn more about you. [13] You can use this as a copy of your profile that you can download if you plan to leave the social network, but it's also just a reminder of how much Facebook knows about you. [13]

If you open your Facebook messages page, there will be a gear icon to the right of each message. [14] Facebook has the ability to scan or read the content of your messages if it likes. [9] Shame on Facebook for making it so difficult to delete a message. [14] For now, that means there's no longer a disappearing messaging option on Facebook, as Direct used to delete photos and videos after they were watched and the conversation around them had died out. [12]

Share to a Page (Android) -- Tap Facebook at the top of the pop-up menu and then select a destination for the shared post. [15] To learn what Facebook has on you, check out this page titled " Accessing Your Facebook Data." [13]

In many ways, your private messages sent through Facebook are property of Facebook. [9] We stop those messages from going through," he continued. ( Myanmar NGOs say that Facebook didn't detect the messages, and that the warning Zuckerberg received was actually from civil society groups.) [9] Today?s news comes just hours after reports that old Facebook messages from Zuckerberg had disappeared from other users? inboxes and threads. [10] Getty To hear Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg talk about scanning people's messages, you'd get the impression that he's running some kind of terrorism police that's making the world better -- starting with a sectarian conflict in Myanmar. [9] Facebook executives have special powers, including (but not limited to) deleting messages that its powerful executives previously sent. [9] Facebook even has a mode if you don't want it to read your messages -- it's called " secret conversation." [9] Not encrypting its messages by default is a conscious decision by Facebook. [9]

Until last year, other users on Facebook weren't able to block him, for example. [11] On desktop or in the mobile app, tap the drop-down menu on the top-right side of Facebook and select "Settings." [16] The quiz maker wasn't supposed to pass the information along, but Facebook at the time had no technical measures in place to prevent it. [16] "We have discussed this feature several times," a Facebook spokesperson said. [11] Facebook has implemented an unsend feature in some capacities with its other products before. [10] Facebook isn't retreating from Stories, even as it cleans up the product line. [12] Facebook is cleaning up the redundancy in its Snapchat Stories clones. [12] If there was any doubt that Facebook is in it to win it in the Stories war against Snapchat, that should be laid to rest now. [12]

This company-wide prioritization of growth over experience was revealed in a stunning 2016 post written by one of Zuckerberg's inner circle, Facebook VP Andrew Bosworth. [9] WhatsApp is an obvious choice, and it's encrypted -- although it's owned by Facebook, and even one of its cofounders now says to delete Facebook. [9] Facebook clearly does -- otherwise, "secret conversation" would be the default conversation. [9]

Facebook hasn't given guidance on the popularity of Facebook Stories but it said Messenger Day had 70 million daily active users in September, versus 300 million on Instagram Stories and WhatsApp Status, and 178 million on Snapchat's whole app. But looking forward, with all the new launches, Hayes says "we're very optimistic." [12] Plus, looking to boost usage of Facebook Stories in the developing world, which Snapchat hasn't prioritized until now, Facebook is allowing users of its stripped-down low-data-usage Facebook Lite app to view Stories. [12]

Facebook Messenger is one of the most popular messaging apps, with 1.2 billion users. [9] @facebook I struggle to create a group on the Facebook messenger app!!! Every time!!! I?m on the IPhone X. help. [17] @oneplus hi guys my facebook messenger app is not working properly on my oneplus 6. [17]

This wikiHow teaches you how to delete a message from a conversation in Facebook Messenger. [14] You cannot retrieve a message on Facebook Messenger, you can only delete your own copy of the message, which does not undo sending the message. [14]

Some messages received from Mark Zuckerberg have vanished from Facebook user accounts. [11] Cambridge Analytica later used this and other information to create detailed psychological profiles of Facebook users and to micro-target political ads at some of them, according to recent reports in the Observer and The New York Times. [16]

Simplifying the Stories offering and giving posts more exposure across the apps without manual cross-posting could boost usage of Facebook Stories, which hasn't exploded with popularity like Instagram Stories. [12] As we first reported last month, Instagram has been rolling out a "cross-post to Facebook Stories" feature that will now populate to Messenger too, though there's no current plan to allow Facebook Stories to be pushed to Instagram. [12] Today Facebook is killing off the Messenger Day brand and merging the chat app's stories feature with Facebook Stories. [12]

Facebook Messenger is a juggernaut, with more than 1.2 billion users. [9] If you have information about Facebook Messenger to share, contact the author at [email protected] [9] What's important is that you shouldn't use Facebook Messenger just because it's the easiest. [9] Due to this, access is very limited, including having little to no access to Facebook Messenger. [17]

You might be logged in to dozens or hundreds of apps with your Facebook account. [16] Deleting a message does not remove it from the other person?s Facebook account. [14]

Another example: Sometimes the app sends notifications when one of your Facebook friends installs it. [9] If the Facebook app isn't displaying the "Share" button, try deleting the Facebook app from your phone and then reinstalling it. [15]

Only Facebook's CEO has recently bragged about the "systems" he uses to scan them. [9]

The method required users to opt-into taking a personality test and downloading a third-party app on Facebook that scraped some of that information, as well as similar data from their friends. [18] Privacy on Instagram has come into question even more since Facebook bought the app -- and this latest Instagram update has many users feeling like whatever they do on the app will become public information. [19] Plus, if you look at your privacy settings, you might notice that the app can easily link to your other accounts, like Facebook, and can access the information you have on those as well. [19] Facebook is not about to cancel the accounts of users who don't like or share a particular message. [20] Given the number of people with whom we share our email address so they can send us email, it's no surprise that those email addresses make their way into online services like Facebook, who would love for us to have an account. [21] When people set up an account with Facebook (and many other services), they're asked to share their contacts with the service. [21]

You cannot realistically expect that many more users to get on Facebook who aren't already; and you cannot expect people to spend that much more money than they already are as a result of their use of Facebook. [22] It's hard to do right, and doesn't do anything about the data that Facebook collects about people who don't use Facebook. [22]

There's an Android Master Sync Switch, and this basically lets you get push notifications and sync data for apps (if you turned, say, calendar sync for Facebook off in Facebook's own settings, then you're still not syncing the app no matter what's the state of this switch, but if you chose to sync something and this master switch is off, then nothing is getting synced). [23] At the time, Facebook said it was "carefully investigating this situation," and, more recently, claims Kogan's app was removed from the network and that it received "certifications" from Cambridge Analytica and Kogan, among others, that the data had been destroyed. [18] According to the New York Times report, Kogan revealed nothing more to Facebook and users than that he was collecting this data solely for academic purposes -- a purpose that Facebook did not question or verify. [18] "With so many third-party developers able to access user data through Facebook APIs, there?s no telling how many other actors might be abusing data in a similar way," he says [18] On the surface, it appears that Facebook did not violate any privacy rules or standards by allowing this personal user data to be accessed. [18] Users largely feel that they were being manipulated by Facebook -- or that, despite its emphasis on how much it values privacy, it wasn't doing enough to protect them from the abuse of their personal data. [18] While it can be argued that this personal data was used for less-than-savory purposes, one of the biggest misconceptions of this story is that it was a breach or hack of Facebook that allowed Cambridge Analytica to obtain the personal data of 50 million users. [18] The data on users' Facebook behavior could be used to shape messages that leveraged what Mark Turnbull, Cambridge Analytica's political division managing director, called "deep-seated underlying fears concerns" in hidden camera footage captured by the U.K's Channel 4 as part of an investigative report. [18] As for the uncertainty of earlier certifications that the user data was destroyed after initial revelations in 2015, Facebook has enlisted the services of digital forensics firm Stroz Friedberg to determine if the data is still in existence, or in Cambridge Analytica's possession. [18]

It collects data from our posts, our likes, our photos, things we type and delete without posting, and things we do while not on Facebook and even when we're offline. [22] For a few photos, Facebook provides a link titled Facial Recognition Data. [24] As a first step, Facebook banned Cambridge Analytica and other associated actors -- including Dr. Kogan and Christopher Wylie, the contractor working with Cambridge Analytica who is said to have blown the whistle on the alleged use of this data by the Trump campaign. [18] I tightened up my settings to keep Facebook from sharing my data. [24] Before my recent experimentation, I hadn't really thought about what-all data Facebook keeps about me. [24] Facebook offered dire warnings about how doing so would disable my apps, and keep me from logging in using my Facebook credentials. [24] These are good things! With these precautions, you can keep using Facebook and still keep (most of) your privacy. [24]

"It also raises the wrong questions for Facebook at a time when the company is already struggling to retain its younger user demographic," said Henry Franco, HubSpot's social campaign and brand Marketing Associate. [18] Facebook identifies accounts with an email address, and tries to collect email addresses of friends. [21] You should definitely contact Facebook; they have a Report an Impostor Account page. [21] The problem is that Facebook doesn't show my posts to everyone that has liked the page, so it's a REALLY REALLY inefficient way for me to interact with people. [21] Hello,we are the Facebook company? You will have to send this message to 20 people to stay active. [20] Mr. Smith said that the number of conservative publications in attendance indicated that Facebook had bought into the idea, promoted primarily by conservatives, that mainstream outlets such as the New York Times are liberal and should be counterbalanced by right-leaning opinion outlets, said people familiar with his remarks. [25] Then a Dictator Was Elected Facebook used 100 million people as a test bed for cheap internet provided by Facebook, and unwittingly helped fuel a brutal crackdown. [25]

Apparently, I've liked more than 60 pages, ranging from Notorious RBG to Thic Nhat Hanh to 'The Official Petition to Establish "Hella-" as the SI Prefix for 10^27.' At least Facebook doesn't have a hellabyte of data on me. [24] Presuming you're keeping Facebook, I strongly advise that you bite the bullet and disable the platform that lets Facebook share your data. [24] Remember also that if you "delete" your data at Facebook it will likely not get deleted in the back end database. [22] These days, it's easy to download an archive of all the data Facebook has on you. (At least, they say it's everything…) Well, it's fairly easy. [24] "This wasn't a data leak by Facebook," said Marcus Andrews, HubSpot's Principal Product Marketing Manager. [18] I never play Facebook games; you'd be surprised, or appalled, at how much data games can gather. [24] Those quizzes that offer to scan your Facebook data and give you a result? Those are poison! I don't touch them. [24] Facebook also warns that you should protect the downloaded data, as it contains sensitive material. [24] It wanted to find an edge that other, similar consulting companies hired by campaigns, for example, didn't have -- and the solution to that was thought to be found in personal Facebook data. [18] The only thing Facebook does is to mark that data as no longer visible to you. [22] "The social networking service Facebook has agreed to settle Federal Trade Commission charges that it deceived consumers by telling them they could keep their information on Facebook private, and then repeatedly allowing it to be shared and made public." [22] I'll review a couple of things to check and keep in mind as you use Facebook. [21] How Do I Use Facebook Safely? - With Facebook's popularity have come concerns about safety and security. [21] I follow security topics and products closely, and I also use Facebook, carefully. [24]

If you think this is fake please call customer support on this number: 316-691-9111 Thank you for choosing Facebook as your social media app. Again thank you. [20] Facebook, this could be so much better! Give us a list of names, yes, but show the number of messages associated with each. [24] Hi this is a message from the creator of facebook and it tells you a little bit about what is going to happen to facebook on the 15th of Dec. [20]

I believe that once you have an account, if you get an invite that you are not interested in, you can tell Facebook to block the person sending the invite from sending any more invites. [21] Facebook knows everybody you've unfriended, and ever friend request you've denied, or ignored. [24] The best you can do is hope Facebook will help and warn your friends there's a fake 'you' on Facebook. [21] The only solutions it wants are to limit offending page reach in secret so that nobody can prove Facebook did it and nobody will yell at the company. [25] "It is just not credible for a company as smart as Facebook to say that," she said. [22]

The News Feed, however, is moderated entirely through a black box of algorithmic designations and human-moderator judgments, the lack of transparency leading everyone to wonder if they are being punished or if their posts just suck (in Congress today, representative Steve King literally asked Facebook why Gateway Pundit was not receiving more traffic). [25] This guy Kevin Matthew has created a script ( available here ) that replaces existing Facebook posts with randomly-generated nonsense. [22]

I've certainly not given up on Facebook I still hang there from time to time ( https://facebook.com/askleofan ). [21] I know a lot of people in the security industry, and I know a lot of people who enjoy Facebook. [24] Who are these people, and where did they come from? The list even includes entries for people no longer living, some of them deceased before I ever joined Facebook. [24] He said the ratio implied a fundamental misconception among Facebook employees about the workings of the news industry, according to people familiar with his remarks. [25] At that point, why publish it at all? No, this had to be something big -- something that Facebook hoped people would miss for the sake of their regularly-scheduled Friday night plans. [18]

Note that you'll have to supply your Facebook password twice during this process, because this is sensitive information. [24] The hearing marked day six of the current debate over Facebook and how it moderates content on its megaplatform -- a debate kicked off during an on-the-record Q&A last week between members of the media and Facebook?s John Hegeman and Sara Su -- and something like day 6,000 of the larger meta-debate on the same topic. [25] Facebook, as well as several other online and social networks, is already facing high scrutiny for the alleged weaponization of its platform by foreign agents to spread misinformation and propaganda with hopes of influencing the 2016 U.S. presidential election. [18] This includes the exact moment you started with Facebook (Thursday, June 28, 2007 at 8:15 a.m. PDT in my case) as well as your address (if you entered it), birthday, gender, hometown, and so on. [24] When Facebook shared a story in its official newsroom at 9:00 p.m. on Friday night, it didn't bode well for anyone. [18]

Those are the topics that inform just what ads Facebook inflicts on my feed. [24] Facebook is, through its size, business incentives, structure, and inaction, enabling a vast conspiratorial far-right propaganda machine. [25] Family connections are a big part of what keeps me on Facebook. [24] I've known for years that with Facebook, I'm not the customer, I'm the product. [24] The endless back and forth on this issue -- Facebook hemming and hawing as its efforts do little to stem the tide of crap on its platform -- points to at least one larger issue, which is that News Feed is simply a bad product. [25]

Following a weekend of emerging news and speculation around what Cambridge Analytica had done, Facebook began to experience was looked to be the beginning of a major fallout. [18] In the wake of the Cambridge Analytica scandal, news articles and commentators have focused on what Facebook knows about us. [22] This would turn the Facebook and Cambridge Analytica story on its head not to mention put the wind up a few puffed up job titles. [22]

Among all his evasions and questionably correct answers in Senate testimony yesterday, Mark Zuckerberg provided another tidbit about the visibility Facebook had on the 2016 attacks. [22] Now that Facebook has made it so easy to download everything the social network has about me, I went ahead with that process. [24] One problem is that Facebook doesn?t need to do anything because it faces no substantial competition in the social media sphere. [25] For every article about Facebook's creepy stalker behavior, thousands of other companies are breathing a collective sigh of relief that it's Facebook and not them in the spotlight. [22]

All the activities that was being done this time will be delay, SORRY FOR THE INCONVENIENCE. To save you?re facebook accounts, please forward this message to 25 FB users for us to make sure that you are active user of FB. If can?t pass this to 25 users you?re account will1 be cut without any hesitancy. [20] When someone creates a Facebook account, she must agree to the company's Data Policy : a rather long document that discloses the use of a user's personal Facebook data, what kind of data is collected, as well as details on how and why that data is used. [18] Even if you don't have a Facebook account, they can use any information they know or are able to find to make their fake account look more like the real you. [21] Can someone create a Facebook account in my name without my permission or knowledge? How do I check for any? What unique identifier does Facebook use? An email address? If found, how do I delete an erroneous account in my name? Obviously, if I didn't create an account, I have no idea what the password is (assuming Facebook requires accounts to have passwords). [21] While you can associate multiple email addresses with a single Facebook account (a good idea for account recovery), you can not use the same email address on different Facebook accounts. [21]

It's not your email address that was used; it's someone else setting up their own Facebook account and making it look like you. [21] When you associate an email address with a Facebook account, you must verify that you actually own that email address. [21] What people can do is create Facebook accounts in your name using some other email address. [21] One of the responses to the Cambridge Analytica scandal is that people are deleting their Facebook accounts. [22]

Their Christian name, photo Etc often appears on on my facebook account, suggesting them as a friend or asking if I know them. [21] They probably have a Facebook account, and perhaps some shared interests or friends. [21] You start at the Profile page, with general information about you and your Facebook account. [24] Just because you delete a facebook account, don't think any of the data associated with it is gone. you're just treated as a non-user after that point, that's all. they collect all the data they can on everyone, nothing is ever gotten rid of, all of it makes money selling it to thousands of other companies worldwide. it just wouldn't make business sense to ever delete anything, so they don't. [22] How Do I Delete My Facebook Account? - Deleting your Facebook account requires some preparation and a fairly well-hidden link. [21] You don't sound stupid, don't worry! So, there are two sync sections for Facebook, one in your Facebook Account Settings, which lets you sync calendar, photos, and contacts and since you don't want these, you should have those turned off. [23] If you have a Facebook account, they can also use anything that's publicly visible to make their account look more legitimate. [21] Useful perhaps to run multiple times before deleting the Facebook account. [22] Is Someone Trying to Hack My Facebook Account? - It's unnerving to get "password reset" emails from Facebook you didn't request. [21] This username or email is associated with a Facebook account. [25] If someone has a facebook account under the email Jane123 @ TMail.net, there's nothing to prevent someone from opening an email called Jane1234 @ TMail.net, and then opening a facebook account, or any other type of account, with that email. [21]

Perhaps you could answer the question I asked? Are these apps, Facebook, Facebook Messenger and Instagram, included in the firmware (making them impossible to be removed)? It's a Yes or No question. [26] I have tried to remove Facebook Messenger and the other apps from the Play Store. [26]

Not surprisingly, Facebook keeps a record of every conversation you hold using Facebook Messenger. [24] "Creepy stalker behavior" -- yes, I suppose it is necessary to condescend to Facebook users and talk to them in their language -- otherwise, here's the thing: those thousands of other companies are relieved that they are allowed to continue using that data which they paid Facebook handsomely for, and the whole situation is moving toward the corporatist // statist fascism which Italy was known for in the Great Depression and World War II era. [22] The weekend was much noisier than usual, with reporters, legislators, and executives weighing in on what might turn out to be the biggest tech news story of the year: the story of how the personal data of 50 million Facebook users was obtained by a so-called data analytics firm and likely misused for a number of purposes, including, allegedly, influencing a U.S. presidential election. [18]

While this version of the scam also requested Facebook users to forward the hoax message to a number of their social media connections, it also included a customer support number. [20] In my case though I have never been a heavy Facebook user because of the privacy concerns. [22] Even if you don't plan on using Facebook, I suggest that you set up a Facebook account. [21]

Facebook's analysis of my friend collection places me in the Friend Peer Group called "Established Adult Life." [24] I find it interesting that much of the media coverage refers to the users as Facebook's customers. [22] By Tuesday morning, Zuckerberg had been called upon by members of the U.K. parliament to furnish any evidence pertaining to Facebook's connection to Cambridge Analytica. [18] Plus, there are rumors circulating that Facebook's chief security officer, Alex Stamos, will soon be departing the company among conflicting points of view with other executives (and the downsizing of his department). [18]

If you prefer to use just one, then it'll have to be Facebook's option because Android's built-in "Messages" doesn't connect to Facebook. [27] It combines three services: Facebook messaging, WhatsApp and the phone's built-in texting. (It, too, also asks to take over the phone's built-in Messages app). [27] While the Facebook last active feature isn?t necessarily nefarious on its own, it?s another instance of the company tracking users a problem that many people are now hoping to avoid. [28] The Facebook last active feature informs your friends when you were last active on the site, and the company does so by tracking your activity on the web. [28] In order to hide your online status by disabling the Facebook last active feature, you can activate "invisible" mode and keep your Facebook last active time from showing on your friends list. [28] Here?s a guide on how to hide the Facebook last active notification on your profile in order to keep information regarding your activity on Facebook more guarded and less publicly available. [28]

It?s pretty disappointing that such a popular site like facebook is not even able to protect its users or find solutions to hacked profiles. [29] Hi! Unfortunately, Facebook doesn't allow users to change the thumbnails of the default applications such as photos, likes, map, etc. [30] The San Francisco-based company's announcement comes as Facebook is facing public outcry over the mishandling of private user data to political consulting firm Cambridge Analytica. [31] It?s a creepy new trick that the app?s developers hope will bring more attention to how Facebook handles our data, along with how other companies access and analyze it. [32]

Johan (above) is wrong about IFRAMES in app. You can have unlimited length if you put in the relevant Javascript in your page to tell Facebook to make the page adapt automatically. [30] After WhatsApp was bought by Facebook earlier this year, it was revealed that VOIP calling is coming to that app as well in the coming months. [33]

While Facebook isn?t in such dire straits at this point in time, many are wondering how they can up their privacy as much as possible while using the platform. [28] Facebook spies on us all the time, and, by extension, so do the companies it owns like Instagram and WhatsApp. [32] The outcome is always better when using a tool like Photoshop to drive image cropping and optimizations vs letting Facebook decide. [30] At Facebook, they noticed that people were using a picture that supported a sports team or cause as their profile picture. [34] How about the dimensions, file format, and max file size for a Facebook video profile pic? This is a relatively new feature and I can find the required specs anywhere. [30] Thanks for the tip! The sizes for Facebook profile video have been added. [30] The most important you need to get right is Facebook cover photo size. [30] The Facebook Group photo is 820 pixels wide by 462 pixels tall. [30] As for "Pictures displayed in Facebook" goes, they changed this sometime in August 2011 its now 960px for landscape photos. [30]

You would think Facebook would be smart enough to tell users the exact image requirements as soon the person begins to try and upload the image. [30] At Facebook, they don?t call their user base customers nor users. [34] The Facebook team started to think how they can make this better for the user and help them express themselves more easily. [34] Facebook, please provide your users something more helpful then this. [29] "Facebook added that the buying and selling experiences triggered by Marketplace have led to a growth of 77 percent in users who may not have otherwise connected." [35] Use Facebook marketing to excel your business! Take this top rated course to optimize your Facebook ads today! Connect with new audiences and lower ad costs. [30] I use facebook every-day so this is Great Tool For me to be updated daily. [30] I wish I could talk to the Facebook representatives on the phone because the e-mailing is getting no where and I really need my account back. [29] Facebook is letting all these hackers run others' accounts because they are too afraid of giving someone their account back and it not being them, making it "their mistake" or something. [29]

She reported my problem to facebook from the form that says a friend has been hacked, but after more than 2 weeks she didn't get any answer. [29] Facebook tried it with the French flag by allowing people show support to the victims of 2015 terrorist attack in Paris. [34] Facebook image size is important because if you get it wrong, then the images will become all blurry and do not reflect well on your brand. [30] Hi! I just wanted to let you know that Facebook has updated the Facebook Ad Picture size to 100 x 72 px. [30] Pinned to the top size is not scaled (resized) by Facebook. [30]

I have sent numerous requests reporting my hacked profile and have not gotten one - not ONE - response from facebook with any updates nor solutions. [29] The process to disable the Facebook last active feature is pretty simple. [28] I dont find any way to contact Facebook to inform about this. [29] Facebook will also start processing payments directly, and they?ve been testing ads directly in the Marketplace, too. [35] In a recent talk, Product Manager at Facebook gave us an example of a real-life process where she solved people's problems. [34] Does it make any difference when an image as used as an ad or regular Facebook. [30]

In your case Steve, it sounds like you're just using Facebook Messenger and your phone's built-in SMS texting app i.e. Android's Messages. [27] Facebook will oblige so you can keep messages from all of your Facebook friends and non-Facebook friends in one app. [27]

Facebook users with the Messenger iOS app installed can be called with a new phone icon at the top right of a conversation thread. [33] The Facebook messenger app will show all of your friends when you?re online perhaps opening you up to interaction when you weren't? in the mood to chat. [28] Just tap it to bring up Facebook Marketplace, and the app will use your GPS to start displaying products right around you. [35] Shopify owners will be able to seamlessly push products to Facebook Marketplace without having to manually create duplicate listings. [35] The entire goal of Facebook Marketplace is to sell products. [35]

The Facebook Group cover image is for some reason different from the Facebook Page cover photo size. [30] The correct Facebook event cover photo size is 1920 x 1080 pixels a 16:9 ratio. [30] Facebook event photo size is different in various locations. [30] There are online Facebook event photo maker tools, but it's really easy to resize image for Facebook event yourself. [30]

Make sure you fill in all the data and design the Facebook images for your business?s Facebook page. [30] This makes it impossible for us to regain access to our accounts even if we did everything possible. without the email associated to the facebook account, we are powerless. [29] Someone has changed the email address on my facebook account. [29]

Facebook Messenger, for example, is now like a spin that centralizes all personal interactions on the platform. [35] Facebook Messenger technically added VOIP (voice over IP) calling in January 2013, but the feature has been limited to the U.S., UK, and Canada until now. [33] Facebook Messenger lets you test this out, experiment on the fly, and even gives you a solid roadmap that can be used offline afterward. [35]

Most of Facebook Marketplace sales will come through an individual?s profile. [35] I read many comments about the Story Cover size of a Facebook Page and no one has given the right solution. [30] After just putting up my Facebook Page, and struggling to get image sizes right and looking good, it will be MUCH easier now. [30]

That's all changing -- now, Facebook is allowing users to unsend messages in its popular chat app. [36] How many times have you ever sent a message on Facebook that you immediately wanted to undo? Unlike some email services, unsending on Messenger has only existed in our dreams. [36] That's because Facebook has not rolled out this option yet, and likely won't for some time -- the company "announced" unsending after news broke that Mark Zuckerberg, as well as other Facebook executives, had unsent their own messages. [36]

Or maybe it is! I have friends who discovered well over a dozen apps lurking within the Logged in with Facebook pane; I only have four, but that's because I did some spring cleaning recently. [37] Over the years you've used Facebook, you've probably given various apps permission to tap into its data trove. [37] To at least make the attempt, find the app on Facebook and send them a message. [37] Say no to Ads on apps and websites off the Facebook companies, which covers all the non-Facebook parts internet where the company serves up ads--which is pretty much everywhere. [37] The things you and your friends do online, and where you do them, and when, and how, and from what locations, all form more than enough of a profile to inform ads that feel like Facebook isn't just listening in on your conversations, but on your private thoughts. [37] After a decade on Facebook, you've likely picked up friends along the way you no longer recognize--not just their profile picture, their name and context. [37] Give people meaningful actions to do from Facebook that they want to share with friends because it reflects positively on them when they do. [38] People keep flocking to Facebook (FB) and the social network keeps raking in money by selling them ads -- privacy scandals or not. [39] Facebook and other data-reliant companies have been gradually introducing privacy controls for some users ahead of May 25, the date the laws go into full effect. [39] Facebook now claims this feature is coming to all users "in several months." [36] The numbers are big: Facebook reported that 1.45 billion users visit the site daily and 2.2 billion monthly. [39] The only way to be truly secure on Facebook is to delete your account. [37] Did you follow or like one of their accounts? Find out for sure here, assuming Facebook doesn't once again upwardly revise the number. [37] Note: I think Facebook puts things different places for different people so hopefully your page works like mine but I can't guarantee it. [40] They stand out like a black eye on your Facebook business page. [41] Although Facebook says that a page will automatically be deleted after 14 days if you don't reactivate it, I did find a sliver of potentially conflicting information. [40]

This time it's the hoax going around about Facebook limiting your News Feed to just 26 friends. [42] CEO Mark Zuckerberg said last week that the social network wants to foster more " meaningful connections " between friends and family on Facebook. [42] "Friends don't let friends copy and paste memes, and this one simply is not true," a Facebook rep told TheWrap. [42] Fear not! Below, we'll walk you through the steps you need to take to keep advertisers, third-party apps, strangers, and Facebook itself at bay. [37] We have crunched the data from five billion data points and this path to success on Facebook just keeps getting clearer every day. [38] As Sandberg and Zuckerberg emphasized several times, all tech companies will have to follow the stricter new laws -- and so Facebook only needs to be better than other marketers to keep winning ad money. [39] Facebook expects to dramatically increase spending this year, predicting outlays of $15 billion -- roughly two and a half times of last year's level. [39]

He said the Government has had enough of faceless ghosts who use sites such as Facebook to post defamatory claims against unsuspecting victims. [43] News feed recently shows only posts from the same few people, about 25, repeatedly the same, because facebook has a new algorithm. [42] Campbell Brown, Head of News Partnerships at Facebook, confirmed last week it?s developing a subscription service for publishers willing to post articles directly to Facebook Instant Articles, rather than their native websites. [42]

In order to remove a review from Facebook, ensure you are using your business account. [41] Solved cant logout out of facebook on chrome but can on other browsers and the app. the menu button is not working so I can logout. [44] There you'll find the categories that Facebook uses to tailor ads to your Liking. [37] When used correctly, Facebook ads are an incredibly powerful and inexpensive way to grow your community, reach, and influence. [38] We are saying you should spend a bit of money on Facebook ads. [38] If the effectiveness of ads goes down, so does the price Facebook can charge. [39] If people want to tag you on Facebook, there's not much you can do about it. [37] According to the Prime Minister the only reason the government is delaying the move to ban Facebook is because there are numerous people who utilize this site for the right reasons. [43] I think Facebook puts things different places for different people. [40]

There are many legitimate reasons to remove the reviews from your social media Facebook business page. [41] "We might not recognise just how distracted we?ve become," he says, in a not-so-subtle dig at social networks like Facebook and Twitter. [45] While it still sounds like the subplot to a lesser Die Hard installment, dozens of Russian propagandists really did infiltrate Facebook a few years ago. [37]

Facebook has never been particularly good at prioritizing your privacy. [37] That's it! You're clear, at least until Facebook changes its privacy options once again. [37]

What you can do, though, is take a modicum of control over what Facebook does with that information. [37] Create a Facebook Group to connect and foster engagement between you and your most involved Facebook community members and supporters. [38] The power of Facebook Groups will only become stronger in 2018. [38] Of the handful of advertisers who stopped spending on Facebook in late March -- a group including Mozilla, Sonos and Commerzbank -- one has since resumed advertising on the platform, Sandberg said. [39]

YOU can't delete a single review; only Facebook can do that. [41] Facebook will email you with a download link when it's ready, which you should pounce on since it'll expire eventually. [37] The bad news: Facebook doesn't always make those settings easy to find, and they may not all offer the level of protection you want. [37] Facebook stock rallied 7 percent in after-hours trading, reaching $170 a share. [39] In doing so, though, you're granting developers deep insight into your Facebook profile. [37] "Most governments have banned Facebook, and we have been holding back because of the positive impact of social media." [43] During the Q&A portion, Zuckerberg was forced to respond to a question about the efficiency of machines trained by Facebook to moderate content now compared to six months ago. [39]

So! Time to audit which apps you've let creep on your Facebook account, and give the boot to any that don't have a very good reason for being there. [37] Your tolerance here will vary depending on how active a Facebook user you are and how obnoxious your friends can be, but at the very least it's helpful for setting custom audiences that exclude people--your boss, maybe, or an ex--you definitely don't want taking an active role in your Facebook experience. [37] Recent revelations that a firm called Cambridge Analytica harvested the personal information of 50 million unwitting Facebook users in 2015 has created new sense of urgency for those hoping for some modicum of control over their online life. [37] Facebook's results cover the period that ended March 30; the fallout from Cambridge Analytica built in the last weeks of the month and continued into April. [39] Facebook's updated News Feed impacted content from publishers, not your friends list. [42] Wall Street analysts on a conference call shrugged off the increased spending, but had a lot of questions about the effect that tightened privacy laws in Europe would have on Facebook's business. [39]

Whether you set up a Facebook page for a business that, well, went out of business or for a hobby that you are not involved with anymore, you may want to delete that old Facebook page. [40]

Facebook Gave Device Makers Deep Access to Data on Users and Friends - The New York Times NYTimes.com no longer supports Internet Explorer 9 or earlier. [46] In all, Facebook empowers BlackBerry devices to access more than 50 types of information about users and their friends, The Times found. [46] Facebook allowed the device companies access to the data of users’ friends without their explicit consent, even after declaring that it would no longer share such information with outsiders. [46] Usher Lieberman, a BlackBerry spokesman, said in a statement that the company used Facebook data only to give its own customers access to their Facebook networks and messages. [46] Facebook's stated newfound interest in cleaning up its platform comes as the social networking giant finds itself reeling from a scandal in which Cambridge Analytica, a political data firm, was found to have acquired access to private data on more than 50 million Facebook profiles most of them scraped without user permission. [47] In interviews, Facebook officials defended the data sharing as consistent with its privacy policies, the F.T.C. agreement and pledges to users. [46] “What we have been trying to determine is whether Facebook has knowingly handed over user data elsewhere without explicit consent,” Ms. Winkelmeier-Becker said. [46] It includes our Best Times to Post on Social Media infographic (which covers Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, LinkedIn, and Google+), plus three Google Analytics custom reports that will help you find your own best times to post (backed by your own data). [48] Generally speaking, the best time to post on Facebook is between 1-3 p.m. and more broadly 9 a.m.-7 p.m. In addition, Facebook use spikes by 10% on Fridays. [48] Fast Company : The best times to share on Facebook are 1-4 p.m., and the peak time is Wednesdays at 3 p.m. Overall, Fast Company says that the worst time to post is after 8 p.m. on weekends. [48] Kissmetrics: The best day to share on Facebook is Saturday, and shares tend to spike around noon and a little after 7 p.m. The best time to post on Facebook is noon. [48]

Remove personal details from your profile: Don't share information like your phone number or home address on Facebook or other accounts. [49] Facebook is facing a lot of criticism over its policies of sharing users' personal information with third-party partners like apps and quizzes. [49] That agreement stemmed from an investigation that found Facebook had allowed app developers and other third parties to collect personal details about users’ friends, even when those friends had asked that their information remain private. [46] In the furor that followed, Facebook’s leaders said that the kind of access exploited by Cambridge in 2014 was cut off by the next year, when Facebook prohibited developers from collecting information from users’ friends. [46] Because these third-party apps most likely can access your location due to its syncing up with Facebook, it's best to keep the two separate, thus allowing for added security measures. [50] “These partnerships work very differently from the way in which app developers use our platform,” said Ime Archibong, a Facebook vice president. [46] I use Canva, which automatically sizes a Facebook Post, Cover Images, even business cards, to create social media and other marketing images, but sometimes they don't have all the templates. [51] Facebook said its community standards policy does not allow the promotion or sale of illegal goods or services including credit card numbers or CVV numbers (stolen card details marketed for use in online fraud), and that once a violation is reported, its teams review a report and remove the offending post or group if it violates those policies. [47] Facebook retired the separate Groups App on September 1, 2017, so we no longer need to be concerned with that weird crop. [51] Even after you've deleted the app from Facebook, it may already have your personal information. [49] This also gives you an opportunity to delete all those third-party apps you have on Facebook. [50] I also checked my permission settings in the app inside Facebook. [52] The app has preset sizes and one of the is 16:9 but when I upload it to Facebook, it chops the ends off. [51] The Cambridge Analytica scandal revealed how loosely Facebook had policed the bustling ecosystem of developers building apps on its platform. [46] Facebook began moving to wind down the partnerships in April, after assessing its privacy and data practices in the wake of the Cambridge Analytica scandal. [46] Elisabeth Winkelmeier-Becker, one of the lawmakers who questioned Mr. Kaplan, said in an interview that she believed the data partnerships disclosed by Facebook violated users’ privacy rights. [46] After the report went live, Facebook dropped the third-party service, which reportedly violated the social network's privacy terms after reportedly lying about deleting users' information. [50] The device partnerships provoked discussion even within Facebook as early as 2012, according to Sandy Parakilas, who at the time led third-party advertising and privacy compliance for Facebook’s platform. [46] The best time to post on Facebook is between 12 p.m. and 3 p.m. Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday. [53] Answer: The best time to post on Facebook is 1-4 p.m. late into the week and on weekends. [48] According to Elle & Co, the best time to post on Facebook is between 1-3 p.m. [48]

Four of these six display at larger than 1200 pixels wide! Friends, you don't want Facebook stretching your beautiful Event Cover Photo. [51] Microsoft entered a partnership with Facebook in 2008 that allowed Microsoft-powered devices to do things like add contacts and friends and receive notifications, according to a spokesman. [46]

Its products include Facebook, Instagram, Messenger, WhatsApp, and Oculus. [54] Below, a guide on how to better your user experience on Facebook while keeping a low profile. [50] The company views its device partners as extensions of Facebook, serving its more than two billion users, the officials said. [46] Facebook officials said the private data channels did not violate the decree because the company viewed its hardware partners as “service providers,” akin to a cloud computing service paid to store Facebook data or a company contracted to process credit card transactions. [46] Mr. Lieberman said that the company “did not collect or mine the Facebook data of our customers,” adding that “BlackBerry has always been in the business of protecting, not monetizing, customer data. [46] Facebook announced they hired a digital forensics team to investigate Cambridge Analytics and the alleged data breach. [50] Facebook acknowledged that some partners did store users’ data — including friends’ data — on their own servers. [46] Some device partners can retrieve Facebook users’ relationship status, religion, political leaning and upcoming events, among other data. [46] A Facebook official said that regardless of where the data was kept, it was governed by strict agreements between the companies. [46] “They could argue that any sharing of data with third parties is part of the Facebook experience. [46] CoSchedule: Original data shows that sharing at 9-10 a.m., 11 a.m. -noon, and 4 p.m. will increase your traffic from Facebook. [48]

Facebook announced Thursday that it would use a machine-learning model to identify potentially inaccurate photo and video content and then send those items to human fact-checkers for review. [54] Sometimes for concert events, they creator uses a full size poster and facebook trims the header to the normal size. [51]

This is where you'll find all of the apps that are paired with your Facebook log-in. [49] The error states Facebook Server and they may have made backend changes that the current version of Wirecast accounts for. [52] As Facebook sought to become the world’s dominant social media service, it struck agreements allowing phone and other device makers access to vast amounts of its users’ personal information.
